MORE INFO ABOUT THE NETHERLANDS
So, this is how the Netherlands look like... it's a very small country, but very much alive!!! We have more than 16 million people living here...and that on 37.330 square kilometers (that's about 14.413 square miles)
If you want to know how small the Netherlands is...click here to zoom out.
We are a democracy and we are a monarchy; a constitutional monarchy..
This is our queen, Her Royal Highness Queen Beatrix van Oranje-Nassau (and a lot of other titles).
This is the Dutch flag...it looks like the flag of Luxembourg...only their blue is light-blue.
(click the flag and you'll hear our National anthem)
She's our queen since April 30 1980...that's when her mother (now called princess Juliana) abdicated the throne.

If you want to know some world well-known people that are/were Dutch and/or are living in the Netherlands click the button at the right:
This is our prime-minister. His name is Jan-Peter Balkenende.
Yes, he looks like Harry Potter and I think he could use some magic to work this government.
He's the leader of the Christen Democratish Appel (CDA) = Christian Democrats.
Because in the Netherlands we always had a lot of political parties, there was (and likely never will be) just one party big enough to govern alone. So we always had coalitions. Just now we have a government formed by 3 parties: CDA,  VVD (Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie = Liberals).and D'66 (Democraten '66 = Democrats.
I'm not very happy with this government; although I voted for D'66 last year (and now, for the first time since I may vote (since I was 18 years old). I sincerely hope that this government will  not stay long in power. This is because I think they made some terrible mistakes by cutting in important budgets and so will devide our coutnry more in (very) poor and (very) rich people.
And I also think this government is going to devide the Netherlands in two other groups: us (people who are 'originally' Dutch) and them (people who aren' t originally Dutch and especially not originally from western countries).
Yes, I believe it too...her hairspray 'fixed' her smile too!!
The capital of the Netherlands is Amsterdam, but our government resides in The Hague; just like our present queen.

Our queen is part (and head) of our government, but has not many real power.
I found a website with good info about the Netherlands...with faq's and some good statistics...if you want to know more about my great and little country click this banner of the CIA - The World Factbook and find out some other info about my wonderful country.
