The Draw Bridge

Chapel Crossroads Canal Draw Bridge site today

This picture above view looks North towards the hamlet of Chapel Crossroads. This is the site where the canal Draw Bridge was situated. The road is all filled in now so it is easy to miss, but the hamlet can be seen in the distance.

The picture opposite shows the Draw Bridge. In the picture the canal boatman leads the horse as it tows the barge along. A group of people ready to lift the Draw Bridge with a horse and cart.

Robert Madeley and his siblings may well have been here when this picture was taken. It was just down the road from their house, so they could watch the barges go by or help at the Draw Bridge.
