MACHINEMATE INC

Low-Cost High-Performance PC-Based CNC Products

MACHINEMATE INC supplies a family of premier PC-based CNC products. The MACHINEMATEb CNC family is the recognized leader in PC-based CNC technology.* The use of Windows (NT or 2000), a standard PC motherboard (Pentium or Celeron), standard PC components, an IEC-1131-3 conformant integrated soft PLC and the capability of Ethernet and standard field bus systems give this system the utmost flexibility and openness available today.

December 2003 news: The latest issue of the MACHINEMATE INC newsletter INFOMATE was distributed. The latest newsletter issue can be viewed here.

This CNC is a complete package, not just CNC software. The MACHINEMATE is an industrial control with an operator front panel having a color display and an operator keypad. To view the overview of the PC-based control’s Windows 2000 open architecture design, select this overview picture (about 75KB). Alternately, for the control’s previous generation Windows NT open architecture design, select this overview picture (about 20KB). To view the checklist comparing this control with competing CNC products, select the comparison chart.

The application of a CNC to an industrial automation project will use many different items, like the CNC, servo drives, servo motors, spindle drive and motor, machine switches and solenoids, operator panel switches and lights. The CNC connections are described including references to the various products available from MACHINEMATE INC for a complete automation solution.

The MACHINEMATE CNC family of controls has been used in many applications including a mill (horizontal or vertical), lathe for turning, grinding, laser or plasma cutting, wrapping, water jet, wood working and others. The industrial PC (IPC) is in a CE-rated stainless steel enclosure. The industrial control operator front panel is IP65 rated, to withstand shop floor applications. The integrated soft PLC enables the CNC to be applied to many automation applications. The price/performance value allows many applications in the retrofit, rebuild and remanufacture markets while its high performance capabilities enable OEM applications also.

For a single sheet brochure listing our main product lines, please read our four-panel brochure (in pdf, 360KB). It describes MACHINEMATE INC and our main products. It also includes a diagram illustrating how this CNC is based on industry standards. MACHINEMATE INC is a single source solution, offering several models of CNC as well as a variety of accessories to expedite an integration.

For a description of the various products available from MACHINEMATE INC, please read our 6-page product brochure (in pdf, 90KB). This brochure contains the information also available from the links above for the CNC models and accessories. The brochure file is in the pdf format so it can be read directly if you have Adobe Acrobat configured for your browser; otherwise select ‘Save Target As’ to save it to your PC disk and read it offline. (Please note that there are links to several articles below that are also in the pdf format.)

A product guide (including the control specifications) is available as several separate documents, each in the pdf format. When published, these sections are included within a single binder.

Ø                  To learn more about the features of the MACHINEMATE control, check the PC-based CNC product description. Both the standard list of G-codes and a comprehensive list of G-codes are available.

Ø                  To learn more about the price/performance of the CNC products, check the MachineMate CNC family product list.

Ø                  A MACHINEMATE training class schedule and a brief class agenda are available.

Ø                  Several MACHINEMATE documents are available for download. The past issues of the periodic newsletter can be viewed. The PLC application templates are also available. Check the on-line document and template list for this information.

Ø                  To learn more about heritage of MACHINEMATE in the machine tool industry, check the CNC heritage description.

Ø                  To read relevant on-line articles, check the links in MachineMate in print.

Ø                  To read about third-party software partners that have software for the MACHINEMATE control, check the links in Partners.

Ø                  Several stories have been written about machine rebuilds and control retrofits using a MACHINEMATE control.

o       Several machine retrofits are described, including a Warner & Swasey control retrofit story (in pdf, 90KB),

o       a Kearney & Trecker MM180 control retrofit story (in pdf, 120KB),

o       a Tschudin grinder control retrofit story (in pdf, 60KB),

o       a Pratt & Whitney Teammate control retrofit story (in pdf, 90KB),

o       a general motion control retrofit story (in pdf, 70KB), and

o       an American Hustler control retrofit story (in pdf, 60KB).

o       A MACHINEMATE integrator has prepared a kit for a Warner & Swasey control retrofit; the W&S kit flyer is available (in pdf, 50KB).

o       To read about an actual machine rebuild using a MACHINEMATE control, a Matsuura rebuild story is available (in pdf, 180KB).

In early 2002, at the WESTEC show, the new eCNC model was announced by MACHINEMATE INC. The two-page brochure (in pdf, 180KB) is available for this new model. The eCNC is based on Microsoft Windows 2000 and provides two front panel configurations to help with the layout of its operator panel/cabinet. The eCNC will be readily available to all customers at the end of the year.

In mid-2002, at the EASTEC show, the new L2 model was announced by MACHINEMATE INC. The two-page brochure (in pdf, 280KB) is available for this new model. The L2 is similar to the eCNC as it also based on Microsoft Windows 2000 with the same two front panel configurations. The major differences are the IPC has IO points and the drive interface built in (rather than in separate IO modules) and the CPU is a Celeron rather than a Pentium 4. These differences result in a lower cost CNC, for applications requiring a total of up to 12 drives (up to 12 analog and up to 8 SERCOS). The L2 will be readily available to all customers at the end of the year.

NOTE:

In mid-May 2001, MachineMate Inc encountered a serious problem with its DSL link to its home page server. The DSL provider filed for bankruptcy. We have a new network link. Our web site (www.machinemate.com) and our email server (to [email protected] and to the staff) rely on a direct connection to the Internet. This alternate site (courtesy of geocities) maintains our Internet presence now and in the future in the case of outages to our primary web server.

This web site has much of the information that is available at the original site. However, our primary site has several power point slide viewers but the yahoo upload utility does not allow several of those file extensions. Therefore those slide shows are not available here. Also, as some other pages also use files that yahoo did not allow to be uploaded and the yahoo upload utility will sometimes concatenate files by mistake, it is possible that not every page will work exactly as on the intended web site (www.machinemate.com).

We appreciate your understanding in this matter. Even if the web site or email servers are unavailable (due to internet connection problems), we are always available via phone or fax as long as the connection via that much older technology remains intact to our office.
