An extremely bright young woman, but one who was trapped in another dimension for five years, Fred is at first extremely timid, and rarely mixes with the people at Angel Investigations. She had been saved by Angel when the group went after Cordelia at Lorn's home world, and has come home to Los Angeles. She has a crush on Angel, her saviour, but apart from that, seems to talk to nobody. However, the arrival of her parents really brings her out of her shell. She is forced to accept the truth of the last five years, and tempted to go away with her family to forget, but decides to stay with Angel and fight demons.

She fills a role very well, helping Wesley with research, but mostly bringing a more modern and scientific approach to fighting evil. She helps setup a website for Angel Investigations, and is responsible for helping a lot of people, even if her intelligence does get her into trouble sometimes (when demons want to use her head for their leader).
