Lorikeets' Page

These beautifully colored little parrots are called Lorikeets. They are everywhere: in the wild; at the beaches; in your backyard. You can see how beautiful they are and, despite being absolutely wild (and protected by law) they are almost tame, even in the wild outback regions. If you see one sitting on your back fence, be ready with some bread with honey on it. If you get the first one to feed, the next day there will be 4 Lorikeets, the next 8 to 10, and so on. They are willing to get on your hand or head, anything to get fed. They just get a snack, not becoming reliant on your handout. But we think they go from one bird-friendly house to the next. We feed all our birds at 7 a.m., with no further feedings, despite protestations to the contrary. Yes, like most parrots, they are very, very noisy. Waiting for the dish to be filled
Hey, Jim, isn't it feeding time yet?
Hey, this is our dish
Get away, this is our dish.
Ivan watches the showIvan watches Jim put the birds to work. One bird to the other:Hmmmm, are we ever going to get fed?
Hey, are they going to feed us?
The next few pictures show the feeding frenzy when food finally arrives.
Feeding frenzy to the max. You could not believe the noise, the in-fighting, pecking order stuff, going on!
While the feeding frenzy was on, and while Bill was training and putting all the "featured birds" through their paces, this species of unknown bird performed as well. You can see in the third picture just above, that they are also pacing around in a circle just like the Lorikeets and the Kookaburras! It is about the size of an American Robin. Anyone know what it is?
