You know what I've decided? Life needs a rewind button. All you movie buffs (which is pretty much everyone I guess) will know what I'm talking about. Ever watch a movie, and then want to rewatch it again? Or back up a couple scenes (or chapters, as all my DVDs call it), and rewatch something you missed? Wouldn't it be great if life was like that? I guess that new Adam Sandler movie coming out is all about that. But wouldn't it be great to just hit rewind, and watch your life over again? And I don't mean if your parents had one of those video recorders trained on you during birthday parties, Thanksgiving, and Easter...I mean the whole shebang, cuz the cameras don't catch everything. I want a button that I can push, and go back to the days when I was a kid and get to see all the things I've forgotten. Scroll through my life and remember the good things, and press the "Skip" button to fast forward some of the bad ones. I dunno, some of the bad times would be interesting to look at too. Maybe catch something that I might have missed, that would have made a world of difference if I had paid attention.
And then there's the idea of visiting people I once knew. See, this is why some people keep diaries, or journals, so they can look back. I tried that once, a computer written journal. I'd go in there every week or so and write a little something. You know how long that lasted? About a month. Then I found it a year later, and re-read through it and updated it. Have I been through it since? No. I don't even remember where it is anymore. Maybe someday I'll stumble across it. Its nice to sit down every now and then from your busy life, and take a look back. Its a different way of smelling the roses, but its smelling the roses none the less. Its unfortunate we lead such rich, fulfilling lives, and yet we don't even remember the day to day interactions, or feelings. There's no way we could write them all down either, so its a shame that alot of the stuff we live is just going to have to be lost.
I really hope I'm wrong, and maybe some day when I go through those pearly gates, I'll ask Saint Peter if he can take me to the A/V room so I can look up the tape of my life, sit down with a tub of popcorn and a medium coke, kick up my feet and take a gander at my life. That'd be sweet.
