QUILTING
Every last Wednesday of the month
Organized
by: Barbara
Maxwell
Next
Meeting: CANCELLED
Wednesday
- May 29th - 7:30-9:30p.m.
Location:
Lynwood
Community Building (7 Sycamore)
We
are in the process of making quilts for "Victoria's
Quilts Canada". This nonprofit organization provides
quilts for those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy
for the treatment of cancer. The small quilts help to better
regulate body temperature. Donations of 100% cotton material
and flannel would be greatly appreciated.
Note
from the coordinator- May 28, 2002:
Hello
everyone,
Most
of you know that tomorrow is our scheduled Quilting Night
for Victoria's Quilts.
I'm
afraid to say that for a number of reasons, it will have to
be cancelled....
I hope this won't deter you from coming back in the fall.
I am going to try to find a larger and brighter facility for
our use next year.
...If anyone is interested in working on something over the
summer, let me know as there are plenty of supplies available.
Will
be back in touch,
Barbara
Note
from the coordinator- Sept 21st. 2001:
On
Wednesday the 19th we held our group at the Lynwood Park Retirement
Lodge. Five of us and approx. 10 seniors joined together to
work on quilts. The seniors that came enjoyed helping with
pinning and tie-quilting. Holding our meeting there not only
helped us, it also helped the seniors. The room was bright
and clean and able to accommodate a large group.
The
unfortunate part about meeting at the Lodge is they are unable
to accommodate us on a regular basis. As such, I have made
the decision to return our regular meeting date to the last
Wednesday of the month at Lynwood Community Center - 7 Sycamore
jDr. There will be exceptions to this date i.e. - October
24th (31st is Halloween), and December 19th (26th is Boxing
Day). We can decide in November if we will meet in December,
but for now the dates are set.
When
we meet next we can decide whether or not we wish to continue
a second night on a random basis at the Lynwood Retirement
Lodge. Please put some thought to it and advise via email:
[email protected].
Please
note - in case you haven't already heard - that Victoria's
Quilts will be holding a second QUILT-A-THON on Sunday, October
14th from 1:00 - 8:00 PM at the Bells Corners United Church
(same place as last time), 3955 Richmond Rd. Registration
is on a first-come-first-served basis this time with a Registration
Deadline of Oct. 7th. You can register on-line at: www.victoriasquiltscanada.com
or at one of the following locations: Sew For It, Quilts and
Seams, The Running Stitch.
If
you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact
me. Until next time...Happy quilting!

Friday's
40 minute visits to local retirement centers
Click
here to view pictures of these visits
Do
you want to bring a smile to a group of folks in a local retirement
home?
Come
with us on Friday's around 4 or 5 PM for a visit at the Lynwood
Village Retirement Lodge.
If
you have kids and they want to come along, bring them! They
just love to see them running around. The kids laughter will
bring back some of their most precious memories.
Come
and chat with the nice people sitting by the lobby. Some of
them have either no family and get no visitors, others have
family far away, others have family near bye but with not
much time for visits.
Giving
a few minutes of your time to them will make their day.
Read
about someone who decided
to join us during these visits and how they are enjoying
them.
To
read more about when we started these visits, read May's
story.
