Troop 49 Organization
The Troop is organized in accordance with the guidelines established by the Boy Scouts of America.
1. A sponsoring organization (Our Lady of the Assumption) which provides meeting space, selects the scoutmaster, and ensures that the troop activities reflect the scouting ideals.
2. A scout run troop headed by a Senior Patrol Leader. The scouts elect a senior patrol leader who is the primary person responsible for the organization and planning of troop activities. The senior patrol leader selects a scout to act as the assistant senior patrol leader. The remaining scouts are organized into patrols, headed by a patrol leader elected by the scouts of that patrol. The senior patrol leader chairs the patrol leaders council, comprised of himself, the assistant senior patrol leader, and the patrol leaders to plan troop meetings, trips and overall troop operations (e.g., advancement, setting a budget, and fundraising).
3. A scoutmaster who serves as the principal adult overseeing the troop. His primary responsibility is advising the senior patrol leader as needed to ensure the troop meets the scouting ideals and to ensure the advancement and safety of all scouts. The scoutmaster also elicits support from assistant scoutmasters to help with this vital function. Both scoutmasters and assistant scoutmasters undergo training conducted by district personnel to be fully qualified for these positions.
