                                               Introduction


You have arrived at Ms. Benoit's digital photography project for students in the Visual Communications class at West Boylston High School, located in West Boylston, Massachusetts.
This project is located in the curriculum assuming that you have already mastered basic knowledge of digital cameras, elements of design, editing tools in Adobe PhotoShop, and building and editing web pages in Microsoft Front Page.
This project will be an opportunity for you to use these tools to express yourselves as contributing members of society and as artists.
The project goal is for you  to display digital photographs and images to give the viewer a look into your lives, your school, your community and your reactions to current events.
You are on the cutting edge of technology and all it can do.
You have access to global communication on the World Wide Web.
You have the potential to document, educate, entertain and provide a unique view of the world.
You   are  responsible for editing and updating the school website, so this project  will become integrated into the current curriculum.
                                                  The Process

You will identify what is unique about your school and community through class discussion and brainstorming.

You will research past and present photographers online to gain an appreciation of the role of photography in society.

You will use digital cameras to take your own original digital photographs of your school and community, utilizing the elements of design and aesthetics.

We will go on field trips in the community to take photographs. You will work in groups of 3-4 per camera. You are expected to give each group member feedback on his/her photographs.

You will use Adobe PhotoShop to edit and create images suitable for posting to the school web page.

You will use Microsoft Front Page to build web pages, post images, and create a
virtual tour of our school and community to be posted on our school website. You will work with partners, depending on interests.

You will participate in an online collaborative project entitled
Virtual School and Community.The emphasis of this project is for you to share images about yourselves and your community with a partner school.

You will use Microsoft Front Page to build web pages, post images, and contribute to a gallery of student work located on our school website entitled
Kids Cope by Sharing Hope, Criteria for acceptance to this gallery will be photographs of teenagers doing positive things for the good of the community and in reaction to current events.

You will research other cooperative educational projects to locate online galleries where your work can be shared.

                                                  Assessment
Assessment will be project based. Each part of the project will count as a seperate project grade in the student's average. Students wil be graded using the following Rubric:
