...Schatten's Modes of Travel
It looks a little ridiculous, I agree. However, the basket was roomy enough and I could lay down, circling to make my nest, of course, as dogs do, but I almost never did.  I liked hanging my head to either side, taking in the scents of the farms, their animals, the meadows blooming with lwenzahn (dandelion in English), odd that such a beautiful sight in Austria is a weed in California.  We went everywhere in Austria on the bicycle, either directly from the house or Lynda would pop that bike in the car and we took off for Krnten, Tirol, the Wachau and other places in Obersterreich.
When I wasn't on the bike with Lynda I was probably on the Kettl's sailboat on the Attersee.  I liked sailing well enough, although there was no place for me to make my toilet, and all I smelled was water.  The azure blue sky, velvet-green hillsides, the stony ruggedness of the mountains...there was incredible beauty on the land, but no animals or trees out there on the Attersee, have you ever heard of anything so crazy?  My friends, Elfie and Karl, would dock at land now and then so I could find a patch of grass, so I never really complained. I did complain about getting on the boat, what a hazard that is!  Only a narrow plank they expect me to share with people.  One time Karl was on the plank, and I passed him but there was not enough space for both of us, so I fell into the water to save him.  I paddled around for awhile with my head held high (don't want to ruin the hairstyle), and they finally got me out. It taught them a lesson, now they don't try to share the plank.

Toplizsee; near the source of the Traunsee
The only way to the source of the Traun River (Traunsee) is passing through two small lakes; by small boat and then by foot.  It is very quiet back there...no cars, no noise, no housing developments, no markets.  (Hopefully my friends have some dog biscuits with them..)
