I'd rather be chewing a bone, one of the juicy ones that Elfie gives me. Lynda is very cool, but she doesn't keep a big stock of those bones, and sometimes she'd wait for better weather and give me one outside to eat so I wouldn't mess up the oriental carpets. Or, worse, she'd put me on an old blanket like I'm some kind of animal. I've been around the world. I'm a travelin' kind of Schnauzer. That wasn't in my plan, but who can argue with a human? I'm dominant enough to let my feelings known, but I don't mind traveling so much.

I've traveled by paws, plane, train, auto, boat, bicycle, Harley, cross-country skis, backpack and even in a kid stroller. That's right, one time I fooled everyone on one of those mountain hikes, and pretended I was tired, so they put me into the stroller and made the kid walk! Well, maybe he wanted to walk, but I was queen dog of the mountain for awhile, nice and cosy in that padded seat, with a nice cooling breeze while they pushed me uphill. Now don't get me wrong, I like to go hiking, and look at the alpine flowers, sniff the news from the other animals (Elfie calls it reading the newspapers, though I prefer to think of it as checking my messages), maybe cool my paws wandering in one of the many mountain streams. It's just that sometimes I don't know how long I have to endure those hikes, and that summer I had quite enough.
One time I accompanied Lynda in the Wettersteingebirge, on a search for crazy King Ludwig's hunting Schloss, the Haus auf dem Schachen, and it wasn't until 6 hours later that I could flop down and sleep again. The Gosau-Dachstein hike was the worst, for 8 hours I slogged up and down that mountain! It never occurred to her that we might stay in the little mountain hut for the night, the Adamekhutte, and give my aching paws a rest. So I made her carry me part of the way down, and that was the end of those long hikes!
The Harley was cool, but we didn't travel much together on that. She was afraid the loud pipes would hurt my ears, and perhaps she was right. The pipes were customized, and the Harley had a lot of power, and that was before she put on the Screamin' Eagle kit. "Performance," she said. "Performance" my small butt! That was one loud motorcycle! I never left her side when the Harley was out of the garage, I knew she would drive off and leave me home, and though I didn't really want to ride on the back, I still had to register my disappointment. It worked, she never stayed away too long! I liked riding with her when she was a passenger on other motorcycles, she would put me in her backpack, put the backpack on her front side, and I would be snuggled between her and the driver. Sometimes I would sleep, sometimes I would hang my head out the side and watch the cars whizz by. I saw a lot of the world this way, and a lot of travelers saw me! They loved to see my head hanging outwards, my pointed ears perked up skywards...they would point and laugh; Lynda would wave.
