2000 Projects:

1) The Lithuanian Consultative Centre for Women, a joint project of the Lithuanian Women's Society and the German Heinrich-Böll Foundation: · Provided training, information and consulting services to women and girls through a network of specialists - psychologists, teachers, doctors, lawyers, sexologists, etc. · Formed psychological help groups and offered courses in foreign languages, self-massage, handicrafts, etc. · Maintained an extensive library of Lithuanian and foreign materials for women

2) Advancement of Lithuanian Women's Position in Rural Areas: In partnership with the Dutch Management and Media Academy, we: · Established a Women's Training, Support and Information Centre in Kretinga to support unemployed and socially marginalized women in the rural areas of Lithuania to realize their potential to improve their socio-economic position.

2000 - 2001 Projects:

3) "Dialogue": In 2000, this project was initiated with the Swedish Adult Education Association (ABF-Norra Stor Stockholm) to help parents improve communication with their children. Financing from the Olof Palme Fund (Sweden) has enabled us to: · Extend training programs in parent-child communication to ten Lithuanian regions, drawing from our comprehensive consultations with Swedish educators · We are currently seeking funding to develop additional training programs for local teachers, to encourage parental education courses throughout Lithuania, and to initiate similar projects in Latvia and Estonia with the objective of facilitating an increased exchange of experiences.

4) "Teleworking: A Chance for Women": Together with partners from Poland and the French organization SEFIA under the EU Leonardo da Vinci project, we contribute to the introduction of teleworking in Lithuania. The project: · Offers support to Lithuanian women affected by unemployment, by opening new professional fields, by creating a favorable environment for the establishment of additional jobs, and by training women in new ways of working from home or at call centers, and in modern communication technologies: computing, internet, html · Promotes equal opportunity for women's access to employment and professional training, and facilitates the increased information exchange among women

5) "White Horses": A yearly award is presented to the best actress in Vilnius.

6) Media Campaign against Violence Against Women: In partnership with the Women's Issues Information Centre and the Lithuanian Journalists Union, with financial support from the Open Society Public Institute Network Women's Programme, an event will take place from Nov. 25, 2001 - Dec. 10, 2001.

Project for which funding is requested:

7) "Preparing Women to Lead" : Using the methodology developed at the European Academy for Women in Politics and Business, Berlin, (EAW) this project aims to bring out the strengths and to remove the obstacles facing young women with leadership potential, enabling them to maximize their career opportunities through mentoring programs, internships and intensive training courses. Qualified young women would be offered three-month internships, including the opportunity to work with women in top positions (mentors) in companies, political or social organisations. This personal contact with successful women in leading positions should encourage them to aspire to comparable positions in the fields mentioned above. They will join the Mentees' network, which unites young women from four West European countries: Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Austria, and facilitates their continued cooperation exchange of experiences. The Lithuanian mentors will also join the Mentors' network, acquire new skills and will be able to study the experience of the Western countries accumulated in this field and to exchange their ideas.

8) "Rural Tourism: New Opportunities for Minorities and Women in Lithuania’s Rural Areas". The current project will empower minorities and women to improve and establish hospitality businesses in the Lithuanian regions of Širvintos, Švencionys, Šalcininkai and Ignalina. Training sessions within the target communities will transfer skills to local populations on topics relating to marketing, business management, and European environmental and sanitation standards. In addition, an information line will be established to continue provision of ad hoc assistance to the newly established businesses after the project is completed. This information line will function as an advice service, providing direct assistance on topics of specialization (directly related to tourism in the region) and referring entrepreneurs to local organizations on other topics (i.e., taxation, local English or French language courses). Cooperation with the Diputacion Provincial de Malaga will enable the publication of high quality, well-targeted brochures for local entrepreneurs and European visitors, as well as the establishment of a multilingual website in partnership with the State Office of Tourism, marketing the regions of Širvintos, Švencionys, Šalcininkai and Ignalina. It is envisioned that the successful completion of this project will lead to continued cooperation in additional rural areas of Lithuania.

New level:

9) A new project starting October, 2001 - participation of The Lithuanian Women´s Society in the "Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme". A project, in which 5 countries (Poland, France, Romania, Hungary and Lithuania) take part, during which a virtual telecentre will be established, containing all the information on its creation and functioning, so that it can be used in the society.
