This website was created thanks to the EU Leonardo da Vinci project. The project "Telework - a new opportunity for women" 2000-2001 (" Teletravail: une chance pour les femmes" ) was realized in cooperation with the french NGO SEFIA and the polish Centrum Promocji Kobiet -"The Center for Advancement for Women". As a part of the project, research with the subject "The opportunities and prospects of telework in Lithuania" was carried out, and a conference was held on this subject. SEFIA handed the original methodical materials to the Lithuanian Women´s society for the basic courses on telework, which will be used training the women in telework.

Lithuanian  Women´s Society

The Lithuanian Women's Society (LWS) was founded in 1990. It is a non-governmental, non-political organization which unites women of different ages, nationalities, faiths and views interested in problems of gender equality, education, ecology and spiritual perfection.
Our goal is to help women to be equal members of society, and to ensure women's participation in decision-making in politics and economics. We pay a great deal of attention to women bringing up children.

The LWS unites 37 regional organizations. A lot is being done in Vilnius and in the regions.

The LWS is working on numerous projects, the aim of which is to teach women seek political and professional careers, to put their ideas into practice, and to combine their social activities with family duties.
The Lithuanian Women's Consultative Centre (LWCC) is a common project of the Lithuanian Women's Society and the Heinrich Böll Foundation (1993-2000). The following programs were created here: "The Art of Surviving" - for women in need of social support (pensioners, single mothers, disabled women). They were taught various handicrafts and provided with methodical literature. "Steps into the XXI Century" is our program for girls and young women from 14 to 18. They were taught to enhance their self-confidence and learned ways to express their personalities. We put a special stress on forming their view of themselves as future mothers. The program "Beautiful People - Beautiful Nature" concentrates on problems of morality and advocating a healthy way of living. The LWS tries to influence the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania when draft legislation on issues important to women is prepared and discussed.
Our publishing house has published various educational booklets. "10 Laws of God" with explanatory notes for children is used in Lithuanian schools as teaching material. The album of worldwide women´s handicrafts "The Art of Surviving" is distributed in Eastern Europe.

Lithuanian Women´s Society is working on various projects, the aim of which is to teach women seek political and professional career, to put their ideas into practice, to combine the social activities with family duties. Many of the projects were made together with women´s organizations of European countries and USA. The main ideas of the projects are spreaded with good will, teaching women the art of co-operation.
We advise women, who have experienced violence or abuse to look for the women with the same problems who can help them; those who are lonely - to look not only for consolation but also for the opportunity of active action, of creating and realising projects.

In 1992 Lithuanian Women´s Society was accepted into the International Alliance of Women. Our delegations and members of our society are often invited to international conferences, forums and seminars. They inform the world on situation of Lithuanian omen.
We participated in the World Women´s Conference in Beijing, in various events organized by women of North-European countries and countries of the Baltic Sea Region. We established particularly good relations with the women´s organizations from Germany, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, East-European countries and the European Women´s Lobby, European Women´s council and other organizations.
By participating in international women´s movement we can inform Lithuanian women of its ideas.

Lithuanian Women´s Society tries to influence the Seimas (Parliament) and the Government in preparing and discussing the documents on important to women problems. We are able to do so because we have good relations with the Women´s Group in the Parliament and with the other influential organizations.
