The S.L.E. (Lupus) Foundation
The S.L.E. Foundation Inc. was founded in 1970 to serve the needs of
the New York City community - dedicated to seeking the cause of Lupus,
improving the treatment, and ultimately finding a cure thorough the
funding of medical research. We provide services to assist Lupus
patients, as well as their family and friends, in dealing with the
anxieties and frustrations that often accompany daily living with a
chronic illness.
The funds we raise will support the following programs:
The Foundation supplies literature on a
variety of Lupus-related issues to anyone upon request. Additionally,
the Foundation offers a referral service to connect patients with
knowledgeable Lupus specialists. We produce and distribute a newsletter
several times each year and offer a variety of events and lectures by
medical experts. These services are largely provided free of charge
thanks to the generous support of our donors and members.
We are extremely proud of our social
work staff which is capable of handling a wide range of needs and
concerns. When an inquirer calls or writes, the S.L.E. Foundation
responds to that person immediately because we realize that many people
have fears and concerns about Lupus, and we want to be there to help.
That is one of our most important goals.
The S.L.E. Foundation is a major
provider of funds for Lupus research grants and fellowships in the New
York area. We also provide desperately needed public awareness about
this little-known but widely prevalent disease. Awareness and education
