TIMES I SPENT IN BANGKOK
January 30 - February 14 2000
Uan and me arrived there by car late at night - well not that late - but after spending 7 or 8 hours in the car it felt very late! My first impression of Bangkok was the Grand Palce by night! It was so huge and gleaming in the light of hundrests of spotlights...with it's whilte walls and red- green roofs and all the gold plated onto it it was a very impressing sight.
And as first impressions go a long way....
I guess I will be in love with Bangkok forever - not even the stink and pollution, all the trffic jams and crowded streets - that are just as bad as they are sayed to be - can steal that charme from it - maybe because Bangkok just wouldn't be Bangkok without all that! Imagine going out of your house and not bumping into thousands of people rushing all over the place, imagine not having all the streetvendors that sell virtually everything there is to sell right there on the street - no honking cars, no close to heart attack feelings when crossing a bussy street ( 98% of Bangkoks streets are in that category.., no squezzing together on the boattaxi, making it almost tip over when all the passengers want to get on o off at the same pier. It wouldn't be the same and that's why I wouldn't want it to change! My head is so full of memories about Bangkok - even though I only stayed there for 2 1/2 weeks that I couldn't tell them all without having to sit infront of my computer for weeks.
It's smal things mainly, that make me wish I was still there : buying Passionfruit on the street, finding some peacefull corner underneath a tree in some gordious tempel area, drinking coke out of a plastic bag, exploring all the thousands exotic little thing displayed out in the open, incredibly hot and unedable dishes, even the so disturbing wires that tangle infront of my head all the time - driving me nuts - always having to bent down, ...the sound of the thai language, their songs that sounded to unharmonical to me for the longest time and can't get enough of now...so many things!
Uan was a real sweet heart showing me arround - I want to add some of the places we visited - temples, temples, temples, ... and hope that you will enjoy looking at the pics as much as I enjoyed the real thing!
