A Simplified Representative of the US/Canada Border This is my representation of the US/Canada border that I came up with especially for Beck and Pam. In some places there may be a bridge or tunnel between the US side and the Canadian side, but in general the layout is a bit like this. ![]() If you're in Canada and need to go through the landing process to become a Permanent Resident, you will proceed to the US border guard as if you were entering the US. The guard will ask for your citizenship, so just answer and then tell the guard you need to be turned around because you have a Canadian visa that requires you to enter Canada from the outside for your Canadian visa to be validated. The guard will then either direct you to the immigration office where they will document your US arrival and departure and then they will direct you to the u-turn area so you can turn around so that you can enter Canada. When you get to the Canadian guard post the guard will also ask your citizenship, so answer and then tell him you have your landing papers and are landing in Canada as a permanent resident. The guard may ask to see your papers and then will direct you to go to the immigration office where you will finalize your landing.
