Mary Anne Hobbs runs by far the best rock / metal music show in the world. The Rock Show (Tuesdays 12 am BBC Radio 1 99.0 fm) plays mostly metal with some rock and alternative thrown in.
LIMP BIZKIT are no more! We all rejoice as we hear the news that guitarist Wes has left the band because of arguments with Fred Durst and now they have cancelled all tour dates, recordings etc. Fred is going to go all around America to find "The meanest guitarist I can find". We hope he doesn't find one!

SLAYER - The Kings Of Thrash Metal. They keep it real. Brilliantly carved songs like "Disciple", "Gemini" and "Hallowed Point" will send you to the bathroom immediately. Great music to sing in the shower. Album = "God Hates Us All" The Site. Rate =8/10
FEEDER - New rock group from UK with real addictive music and some great songs. You might find them sounding Weezer-ish but most songs are origonal and smooth. Their songs are real smooth, fast and sleek music. The Site. Absaloutely stunning Album = "Echo Park". Rate = 6/10
PEARL JAM - Classic. Enough said. Donal will tell you more [Click]. Album = "Vitalogy". The Site. Rate (of Dex, Don, Shon etc.) = 9/10
MANIC STREET PREACHERS (1991 - 1995) - Richey Edwards was really the foundations of this band and when he dissapeared in 1995, the Manics could do little without him. They just had that unmistakable sound. Wailing guitar and dissatisfied lyrics were their trademark and they put on impossible live shows. Album = "The Holy Bible". Rate = 9/10
MANIC STREET PREACHERS (1995 -) - Easy Rock with some heavy stuff thrown in. Real fresh sound. They are much more than they are said to be but never will be what they once were. Album = "Know Your Enemy" The Site. Rate = 7/10
MACHINE HEAD
- One of the best heavy-metal groups with some great songs like "Only
The Names", "From This Day" and "Bulldozer". Some
metal bands go over-the-top but Machine Head keep it sounding great.

METALLICA - Words cannot express. Just listen and learn. Personal favourite = "The Unforgiven" Album = "S&M" The Site. Rate = 8/10
EMPEROR - Emperor play it loud. Emperor play it hard. Emperor can still make excellent music. Church organs keep the tune, guitars grinding it out, great singing and on top machine-gun drums. Impossible songs = "The Eruption" and slightly less heavy with great riffs - "The Tongue Of Fire". Ultimate black metal album = "Prometheus..." Rate = 6/10
TOOL -
In a class of their own. Great sound. Rock. Excellent songs. Best = "Triad",

THE DANDY WARHOLS - Great little band with a style not unlike that of rock legends The Rolling Stones and Genesis from the '70's. Real cool, happy sound. Album = "Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia". The Site. Rate = 7/10
SLIPKNOT - Metal. Unique style with very good music. Some songs drag and grind but others like "People = Shit" are cool. Album = "Iowa". The Site. Rate = 6/10
NEW FOUND GLORY - Powerpop at its very best. Real happy stuff. Album = "New Found Glory". Rate = 5/10
SYSTEM OF A DOWN - Great nu-metal band with original feel. Cool, fast songs like "Prison" stand out with brilliantly twisted music. Fascinating stuff played by a band playing with their own rules. Album = "Toxicity". The Site. Rate = 8/10

FOO FIGHTERS - Good band, Heavy music, Great songs. Some, you would think you've heard before. Album = "foofighters". The Site. Rate =6/10
SPARTA - Punk Rock band with some members from "At The Drive In". Sparta have a clean sound and excellent songs. They might drag out some songs but most of their music is brilliantly smooth. The Site. Album = "Air". Rate = 6/10
MARILYN MANSON - Longrunning metal band with some gems of songs like "Disposable Teens".The man himself is twisted but the music is great. Album = "Holy Wood In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death". The Site. Rate = 6/10
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - Unique. Creative. Political. Angry. Heavy. Top. Class. Metal. Explained. Buy It. Album = "Battle of Los Angeles". The Site. Rate = 8/10
SMASHING PUMPKINS - Legendary rock band with some absaloute classics like "Cherub Rock", "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", "Tonight Tonight" etc. Brilliant band with great riffs and tunes. Can say no more. Album = "Mellon Collie and the Infinate Sadness" - a huge 28 song album with the best singing heard ever. The Site. Rate = 8/10
REM - Great sound with some really cool, melodic alt-rock. They have come out with some excellent songs over their long career. Best = "At My Most Beautiful". Album = "Reveal". The Site. Rate = 6/10
WEEZER - "Happy" songs (?!) with some good guitar solos and wierd titles. The music style is undefined but the songs are so cool, free and addictive you have to listen. You will either love them or hate them. Album = "The Green Album" The Site. Rate = 8/10
LINKIN PARK - Melodic nu-metal. Some very original lyrics. Highly addictive lyrics. Some great songs like "A Place For My Head" and "By Myself". Some songs are QUITE alike. Album = "Hybrid Theory" The Site. More Info . Rate = 7/10
FEAR FACTORY - Grind/heavy metal. Fear Factory produce a great sound of hard, angry, music. Album = "Digimortal". The Site. Rate = 6/10
STAIND - Origonal sound and some great songs like "Can't Believe" but on the whole the songs are too depressing, slow, and generally shite. Yet another Nu-metal project gone wrong.Album = "Break the Cycle". The Site. Rate = 5/10
LIMP BIZKIT - The music could be good. Take the lyrics away and you'd have some low-medium nu-metal but the way they rapsing is ruyghkglug. Album = "Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavoured Water" The Site. Rate = 4/10
GARBAGE - Very good sound and singing, some good mixes as well. "Version 2.0" was brilliant but the new album, is a bit of a dissappointment. It's too commercial.Album = "Beautifulgarbage". The Site. Rate = 6/10
BUSH - Nice easy rock sound with some interesting melodic guitar work and some beautiful songs like "Solutions". Album = "Golden State" Rate = 6/10
LOSTPROPHETS - Nu - Metal band from England. Great sound with really cool fast songs. Song = "Shenobi VS Dragon Ninja". Album = "The Fake Sound Of Progress". Rate = 6/10
LIT - Easy rock with some great solos and origonal stuff. Album, = "A Place in the Sun". The Site. Rate = 6/10
RAGING SPEEDHORN - Thrash/nu-metal band out of England. Grindstyle singing with fast, heavy songs. They do have a great sound but some songs are too much thrash-ed. Not entirely original music but still it does live up to its name. Song = "The Gush". Rate = 5/10
THE OFFSPRING - A few songs are the same but original punky sound. Their best album = "Americana" and their current album = "Conspiricy of One" is kind of crap. The Site. Rate = 5/10
BLINK 182 - Threechordpunkrock. Their old album, "Enema of the State" was good but their current album = "Take Off Your Pants And Jacket" is too "Made in China"-ish with all songs "totally similar" and "Unfortunately Addictive". The Site. Rate = 5/10
STEREOPHONICS - Medium-good band and a few albums out. New, fresh sound. Pity about the singing. Album = "Just Enough Education To Perform" The Site. Rate = 5/10
JJ72 - Irish Band, heavy rock, great album = "jj72" Unfortunately, they put on a crap live act. The Site. Rate = 5/10

About half of dance music is crap but some DJ's can actually produce very good music. Check out Mr. Spring, Judge Jules and Safrey Duo.
- Drum 'n' Bass -
The music that joins dance with salsa with african with Jazz and with carribean. Chill out music made for your head. Check out The Avalanches, Leftfield, Axium, Rebel Society and Deepzone.
- Salsa -
The percussion in this music is out of this world! Kits, bongo drums, woodblocks, bells and rhumbas. The music itself is funky. Jazz and Latin American influences which produce a great orchestra of Piano, bass guitar, brass section, clarinets and mostly percussion. You must check out the one and only Roberto Pla. Genius.
- Jazz -
One of the most advanced styles of music. Instruments (mostly) = Rythym guitar, double bass, bass, drumkit and sax/clarinet/trumpet. One of the best in alternative music. Joe Strummer (Old Stuff), The BBC Swing BigBand or Flipside.
- Reggae -
Great music. Funky, light stuff with great sound. Some anthems, some ballads, altogether great sound and excellent music to get in to. Check out Bob Marley or Eddie Grant.
