JEDI TRIALS

Jedi Code

Moving through space at unnatural speeds the starline streaked by the Sands of Time as the Coruscant Heavy Courier slid through hyperspace towards Agamar. On board resting his feet on the control council of the ship Lance leaned back in the pilots seat holding the wooden box that contained the lightsaber he had recently purchased. Intrakit carvings and etchings covered the wooden case as well as words written in basic scrolling around the base. Now this was getting more interesting, Lance had hoped to receive some formal training in the Jedi ways after years of private studies into there religion. Examining the phrase that encircled the box Lance was shocked to find the missing piece to the puzzle he had been looking for.

There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.

Sitting up and putting his feet squarely on the ships solid durasteel flooring Lance began punching this phrase into the databank of others he had gathered over time from readings and forgotten texts on the ancient Jedi religion. Compiling the massive list the computer on board the Sands of Time displayed, in basic, the elusive phrase of a distant time.

There is no emotion; there is peace
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge
There is no passion there is serenity
There is no death; there is the Force

This has to be it. Lance added speaking out loud to himself. This must be the forgotten Jedi Code, but what does it mean.

The silent journey through hyperspace was often one of self reflection for many who traversed its plane, but it also could lead a man to madness if left only to his own devices for long periods of time. Laughing a bit Lance decided he would buy a droid for a bit of banter now and then.

Now that Lance thought and felt he had the completed code by which he would lead his life all he had to do was figure out just what was meant by these four important sentences; a challenge in it of itself. The second phrase seemed logical and would be the easiest to grasp. A man such as Lance from a scholastic background figured he would have no problem deciphering that line for what it was.

Knowledge is the foundation of all understanding, without knowledge beings are nothing more then wild animals. Those who temper their actions with knowledge, shall prevail because the understand the situation and they can see clearly the outcome of there decisions. As opposed to those who act out of ignorance without first analyzing what is in front of them. Those who temper their words with knowledge, shall be clear because those of an open mind and free will can see, hear and feel what was intended by the individual who speaks from knowledge and not ignorance. Those who temper their way with knowledge shall be in harmony. Thus, the enlightened lead by opening themselves to the galaxy. Unlike those of ignorance who are blind to the galaxy and act without harmony reacting first and worrying about the consequences later on.

When a Jedi fails to understand what is happening they are in ignorance. Knowledge allows a Jedi to overcome ignorance through learning and understanding. There is learning to be done constantly, it is a progressive process. A jedi seeks the truth, not the lies, to see past the illusions to what is really there. Seeing past the falsehood of ignorance.

Lance figured that was the perfect analysis of the second line but to fully grasp this he would need to figure out what was meant by There is no emotion; there is peace. His mind was drawing a blank to this line. Everyone has emotions, good and bad, and as far as Lance could figure peacefulness was an emotion.

Time droned by and Lances mind wandered to the past on Kalarba for maybe the answer lied in his past. Remembering his pleasant childhood and the people and places of the past brought a twinge of nostalgia to his tempered face. As he moved forward from the first day he could remember to know. Playing with his little brother Cole around the family space station, and getting into mischief brought a joyous smile to his face as Lance once again leaned back into the chair of his ship relaxing. Moving forward still remembering his brother painful memories flashed to his mind answering the riddle he was posed with. If only he had not allowed his emotions to rule over him and cloud his judgement then he would still have a brother. When Cole had taken the family ships to hunt those responsible for their parents murder Lance could not forget or understand why his brother acted the way he did. Cole had probably saved the family business and Lances memory of his parents by defending the station from there attack. If only Lance had forgiven him for using the ships before maybe he could have seen his brothers actions for what there truly were; A crying for help.

Putting this painful lesson to good use Lance deciphered the first line of the code pounding it into the computer with thud.

A Jedi does not allow their emotions to rule over them; this is because a Jedi does not let them interfere with their judgement. Emotions both good and bad can cloud their perceptions; this hinders their ability to understand what is happening. The Light is a pure form of the Force intimately bound with the essence of life itself. The lights is peace, harmony and knowledge and those who follow the Light use it for only these things. The Light is nurtured and draws strength from the diversity of life, thriving where there is serenity and accord. Those emotions which enhance its flow and tap into its vast reserves of strength and peace. Patience, humility and self-sacrifice are paths to enlightenment.

For line three of the code Lance turned to his trusty computer system to give him the answers. Ancient text on that specific and sacred line was in his databanks somewhere. The question was finding that elusive prey. Starting with simple queries Lance narrowed the choices down and reviewed each one carefully making sure he had chosen the right one. As he read one over and over again it just seemed to fit into what he had managed to get so far. He chooses this one feeling it was right analysis.

Through seeing past the inner illusions and falsehood, a Jedi finds serenity. Their inner peace. A Jedi is calm, passive, at peace with themselves. The first struggle the Jedi will face is with themselves. A Jedi must find their peace with life.

The last line of the Code at first seemed almost contradictor to the truth that Lance had known his entire life. All things die, the Jedis were no different, Lance knew this much of them in that all the reading he could find pointed to many occurrences were they were defeated and killed. The meaning had to be something deeper so he turned to the mystical field the Jedis claimed existed called the Force. After many many years of searching for the Force Lance had successful drawn some complex and detailed description of what exactly the Force is.

From the depths of the universe it came, Life, and with life there came beauty. As Life grew, it diversified. Vast energy grew with life, fed by both beauty and ugliness of life, thriving, growing and evolving. As life blossomed and grew ever more sophisticated, so the energy grew, becoming more defined and distinct. This energy field permeates everything living thing throughout the galaxy. It is created by life and a few special beings in the galaxy can feel its essence and flow. This energy surrounds and penetrates us, binding the galaxy together.

Combining that with what he knew of science and death seemed a bit illogical at first but then so were so many views Lance had clung to and maybe it was time to let go of those beliefs and trust his feelings and judgement. If by the laws of science and nature energy is neither created nor destroyed then the Force was an indestructible, unending source that could be harnessed and this must be what gave a Jedi there mysterious powers and mind tricks. If its true and a Jedi believes themselves to be one with the Force a flowing energy field then on there death they must return to that energy field, thereby never truly dying but just changing form.

The Force surrounds us, binds us, and penetrates us. Life [the Force] is constant. It cannot be destroyed, it can only be forced to change forms. A Jedi lives within the flow of life, with the Force. They live in the cycle of life.

Once again leaning back in his chair Lance leaned back pondering his newfound knowledge and understanding. This voyage he was on would challenge all his beliefs and understandings of the Galaxy. Peace and calm fell over the thirty-year old man feeling much like a child finally grasping the truth about the world around him.

This would be interesting indeed Agamar had the answers to his questions and it was now only a matter of time before he got a few of them. Soon he would find out if he had been wasting his life in pursuit of this knowledge and if his carefully conceived notions on life, the force, and the Jedi ways were indeed correct or if he was truly going mad and turning into a crazy old wizard.
