| 7. I used to be just like you... If there's a more condescending statement out there, I haven't heard it. What's the implication? That I'll change my mind too, that I must not have thought this through, that I just need to grow up, etc. And, no, you were never like me. There's no such thing as formerly childfree. If you've changed your mind, you were never childfree to begin with. You were childless, or pre-childed, or, at best, a fence-sitter. |

| 8. You'll change your mind someday/you'll regret it. Oh, there's that "more condescending statement" I was looking for. Why do you presume that I can't make this decision for myself, that I couldn't possibly have thought this through and still reached this conclusion? Most childfree come to their decision through a great deal of thought and soul-searching. Meanwhile, a lot of childed people arrive at their decision after a great deal of tequila. |

| 9. You're smart; you're one of the people who should be having kids. I don't really understand this one, but I get it all the time. What does being smart have to do with it? So, if I'm smart, I have some sort of duty to pass it on to society (which is scientifically dubious at best) through a new generation? Even if that worked, smart people will never be able to outbreed the half-wits. Studies have shown that the smarter a couple is, the more likely they are to have no children or one child. Besides, what's the point? Instead of doing something with my brain, I'm supposed to rely on my uterus to breed an even smarter child for the world, who will only face the same pressure when she gets older. When does the cycle end? |

| 10. But, if everyone felt like you, the human race would be extinct! Again, one I don't really understand. What are we, snow leopards? Do you know how many people there are in the world? Over six and a half billion. We're reproducing at the rate of 70 million a year (net). Even if every person within a thousand mile radius of me vows to remain childfree, the world population numbers will still rise. |

| 11. Having kids is great for your relationship! Really? I would think that sharing your bed with an underage third party would have the opposite affect. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12. Having kids makes you a better person. So does giving all your possessions away to the poor, but I'm not doing that, either. Oh, and better than whom, exactly? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There are more (a lot more), but those are just the cream of the crop. The funny thing is, no one ever asks childed people similar questions. No one would ever dare be so nosy about one's private life. Unless you're childfree, then you're fair game. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
