The Laws and Policy of Tempest
1.NEW MEMBERS Admission to Tempest is by Invitation, with an application. A mission statement and Application is completed and submitted. Character must be at least insight 71 or 41after subbing, and of good reputation . Tempest is open to a select group of members to ensure and preserve the values of the guild. An in-person interview may be given by the guild leader, or by a council person if the Leader gives permission. The application will be posted on the guild board by any council member.
The applicant will be put up for a vote by all guild members. The vote will last for one moon. At this time, Existing members will post any "NO" votes ONLY. They must have a valid reason for the "NO" vote, or the "NO" will be disregarded. Members are encouraged to speak to the applicant personally to get to know them during the voting phase. Three "NO" votes will disqualify the applicant. If there is a reason that anyone feels that someone should not be accepted, it should be discussed with the guild. Try to overlook petty differences you may have had in the past. As guild mates you may find that you become friends. However, if you are aware that an Applicant has a bad reputation, please come forward. It is your obligation to protect the guild. If the Applicant wins the votes and is admitted, they will be on probation for one month. At which time, they can be subject to removal without notice if they violently disregard or break Policy of Tempest. If at certain times Open Recritment is declared, the requirements will be posted on the Guild Board
2.ADMISSIONS Once the three days have passed and the applicant has been accepted. An acceptance letter will be mailed to the applicant by the guild leader or Dean of Admissions. Any council may admit. When Council Admits ANYONE, even an ALT, they must then post it on the Tempest Board After a probationary period of one month, members may admit up to 1 additional character. Additional Characters must also be at least insight 41 and are subject to same requirements as Main member. (After a guild meeting on November 4th, it was agreed that the admission of alts will be suspended till further notice. The consensus was that having an alt tends to lead to divided loyalty. Example-Actual true occurrence: Leaving the guild on one character to join another guild or after a dispute; but keeping the alt in the guild and logging it as if nothing happened. This new amendment will be reviewed on a case by case basis. A member may be able to admit an alt on an anniversery date if they have proven loyalty. However they must agree in WRITING to remove ALL characters if they decide to leave and can not leave one in the guild or it will be exiled) The admitting council must post the name, class and insight of the Alt on the Tempest Board. If a former member wishes to return, they may apply for amnesty. An amnesty letter is sent to the Guild Leader. It would explain why they left, and why they want to return and the reason they should be allowed to return to Tempest. The letter will be posted on the board and members can comment. The Guild Leader will then decide to either accept the amnesty and readmit, or not. If they are readmitted, they start from the beginning at the probation level. At times, the Guild Leader may issue a boon. A boon is a gift to the guild. An admittance boon for example would allow a member to have an additional character admitted, sometimes of an insight lower than the minimum requirement
3. MEMBER BEHAVIOUR It is unacceptable to harass, disrespect, backstab, or cause harm to another Tempest member. This especially includes scamming or thievery. Tempest instituted a zero tolerance policy against those members that engage in this type of behavior. Members deserve respect regardless of being a GM Master or someone just starting out. At Tempest, everyone is treated equally. A Tempest member will conduct themselves in a manner that will not discredit the Guild. Refrain from involving the guild in personal disputes if these do come up. You may call upon an officer or council member to step in and help resolve, if this is desired by both members. Tempest members are counted on to be there for one another. Members should do what they can to help another member. . However, please do not repeatedly ask for help, items or money. This can become irritating and make the other members feel taken for granted. Remember, this is a guild of Freedom. While we encourage cooperation amongst members, no one should feel pressured or demanded to do something. Remember, we are neither a Leeching Guild, Arena Guild, Bank Guild or Clout Guild. So while there is nothing wrong in asking for these things, begging and demanding are not acceptable. Guild members are here to help each other when they can, but also must be free to enjoy their own lives.
*(See Arena Policy)
Every member is responsible for his/her characters own behaviour. If you behave badly, you will not be able to use the excuse that it was not you it was your brother, sister, mother , father, friend or whoever. If you give your friend your pw and he does something that gets you in trouble, you will still be held responsible for whatever your friend did or said. This includes "your friend" removing your character from the guild. Also, If you leave the guild on a whim, and then change your mind, don't expect to just be readmitted by claiming you were hacked or "your friend" did it. We as a guild are smart enough to realize you just changed your mind :P. So it is better to be honest and ask for amnesty to return and not lie and say your friend did it.
One of the MAJOR signs of disloyalty is if you discuss, are in the progress of, or are discovered wanting to join another guild or to leave Tempest. Since loyalty is the one unbreakable rule, we find this to be a terrible thing. If this is the case, you will be asked to not delay youre leaving. Your departure from Tempest will come much sooner than later and you will be free to explore other guilds in your free time away from Tempest
4. GUILD CHAT & BOARD ETIQUETTE Conversations of a very personal nature between two members should not be made in guild chat. Keep it in good taste, refrain from using profanity. If you need to "Loudly discuss" something, take it out of guild chat or face disciplinary actions. Members should not be fighting with each other in any circumstance NO ARGUING IN GUILD CHAT. It is distrubing to the members that have to listen to it. Also, while we encourage love and friendship amongst members, too much sweet talk can become annoying. If you have to profess your love for one another, know when it's in good taste and when it becomes overdone and irritating. . If a Council member asks for a conversation to end, please respect the request. If the request is ignored, you may be subject to discipline. There are certain topics of a sensitive and serious nature that do not belong in guild chat. We would ask that you keep conversations light and be sensitive to the feelings of other members. Council will only issue one warning if in their judgement, a conversation is becoming heated, is of an offensive nature, or is not appropriate. Arguments in guild chats are not allowed, as stated above. Any member that continues will be given a Final Warning. If the Final Warning by council is ignored, all members involved who continue, will be exiled without further warning. This exile may be temporary, or permanent depending on the severity of the offense. A screenshot of the conversation will be reviewed by the guild leader if not present. Exiling council is responsible for preparing the screen shot. The same rules of conduct apply to the Tempest Board. It is not there to be used to insult others or write things in poor taste. A post that is deemed inappropriate, will be removed without explanation.
5. EXILE No member will be exiled without cause, and without the consent of the Guild Leader except as stated above concerning guild chat ByLaw #4. Exile is not something that we at Tempest would like to have happen. Exile will only be used as a last resort. Any council member that exiles a member without consent will face disciplinary measures. This could include abdication, demotion and/or immediate exile. In the event that a member displays conduct adverse to Tempest Policy or bylaws, they will be spoken to either in person or in writing. If the problems persists, they will be issued an Official Final Written Warning that will be posted on the Tempest Board. Official Warnings can only be posted by a council member if they have consent of the Guild Leader. The member will be on probation for 30 days. Once a member is placed on Official Final Written Warning, they may be exiled by council at their discretion. If an act is committed that in their discrection, merits exile, Council may do so only at that time, without prior approval from the guild leader If the situation improves and no further discipline is necessary, the member will remain in good standing after probation ends.
6. LEAVING TEMPEST When a member voluntarily leaves Tempest, they are not expected to return. Leaving Tempest is a major sign of disloyalty which is very much against the Spirit of Tempest and it's mission statement. For this reason, if a member leaves and especially if it's for another guild or fellowship, they may not be able to rejoin Tempest again. In the event that a former member has left for emotional reasons and has not joined another guild or fellowship and has realized his or her mistake and wishes to return, the case will be reviewed by the Guild Leader. The member may apply for amnesty with approval of the Guild Leader. Council and members may or may not be consulted. If there is a good reason why the member left, they may possibly be readmitted. If a member leaves Tempest a second time, they will never be admitted again. Once the Main member has gone, the alts must go as well. (SEE ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS & Ammendment of November 4th 2006)
7. ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS (SEE ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS & Ammendment of November 4th 2006) As mentioned in admissions, they may be admitted after the probation period of one month ends. They have no voting power. A member in good standing may have one additional Alt in the guild (or as described above). If a member is exiled, removed or leaves, The additional characters must also go or face removal and exile without warning. If there is a good reason why one character should stay in, it will be reviewed on a case by case basis. If you decide to remove one of your siblings and leave others in, It is advisable to let the Guild Leader know first. IF YOU REMOVE ONE OF YOUR CHARACTERS THE OTHER IS SUBJECT TO EXILE WITHOUT WARNING. Please be aware of this so that there will be no hard feelings or misunderstandings
8. COUNCIL MEMBERS & OFFICERS Shall be appointed by guild leader unless otherwise specified. (See "How Council is Selected at http://www.geocities.com/lourdsladair/Council.html ) Since it is necessary for council to be around as much as possible, council may have up to 5 ((other characters)) in the guild. However these additional "members" can not have a voice in meetings and are not considered council. They are just there in case the members need to contact council. They also cannot vote.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN A COUNCIL OFFICER HAVE A MEMBER IN ANOTHER GUILD OR FELLOWSHIP
From time to time Council Members will be asked to attend General Meetings. At this time old and new policy may be reviewed. Any member may ask a council member to make a suggestion at the next meeting. Ideas will be introduced and discussed. These measures will be introduced as guild policy if it is decided by the majority present that it is for the good of the Guild and its members. From time to time, the council meetings may be open for all members to attend and listen to. Some meetings will be closed depending if sensitive issues need to be discussed. Guild Leader retains the right to veto any opinion that may be harmful to the guild or its members.
Council Members/Officers are expected to guide and lend assistance whenever possible. The good of the Guild must come before any other obligations, including hunting, politics , arena or their friends. If at any time council can not fulfill this obligation, or needs to spend more time on their non-guild Character and can not be available, They will be asked to abdicate their position, The guild leader shall send a letter to such council and inquire into their unavailablity.
They should be there to set an example of what Tempest is truly about. They can not show a bias and must be fair to all members. Favoratism towards a member will not be allowed. If a council member is personally involved with a dispute with a member, ANOTHER Council member must be called in to moderate. Council can not moderate a situation or discipline a member in a role of council, if they are personally involved, Under no circumstance should they scream at, criticize or threaten another member. This is not acceptable by any member. It is extremely worse if done by an officer.
Council Officer has specific duties that go with their office. In a way to promote guild loyalty and to share our observations, each council member is required to write a weekly post for The Tempest Board. This post should be guild related, or Dark Ages related. Personal comments are acceptable if they have somehow reflect upon the guild.
If at any time, an officer feels they can not uphold their oath or accomplish their duties, they will be asked to Abdicate their seat. Abdication does not mean they are leaving Tempest. It simply means they are retiring from public service. They must however, revert back to the same rules of admissions as regular members and may be asked to remove additional alts in the guild. It is not considered retirement if a Council Member abdicates to join another guild. In that situation, they are required to remove ALL alts from the guild.
9. ((Roleplay, Out of Character/In Character-OOC or RP and IC )) Either is acceptable. Please respect another members desire to either stay in character and Roleplay or to be OOC & speak as in real life. Either way is fine as long as it's in good taste and not disrespectful to the other members
10.. Have Fun
11. Make as little rules as possible :P |
| Tempest is a very liberal free guild. It gives its members alot more freedom than most guilds and has very little rules. However, to make it a nice place to be some common sense guildelines should be followed |
