In June 2003, P6 pupils, teachers and parents from Acorn Integrated, Carrickfergus Central and St. Nicholas primary schools came together to launch this year's Belfast Lough Sea & Shore Environmental/Arts Project in the Town Hall, Carrickfergus.  The children have been involved in the project all year.

The pupils took a trip around the Belfast Lough, visited Gasworks in Carrickfergus and took part in workshops instructed by Poet Adrian Rice, Artists Helen Crossey and Phil O'Hanlon and Dramatist Molly Freeman.

Molly Freeman then chose poems from Carrickfergus Central and St. Nicholas to script into poetry performance pieces that the students performed on the night. Acorn Integrated wrote
original playlets that a drama troupe of six also performed on the night.

Art work was displayed, certificates with the pupil's best poem were handed out to each child, a slide show was shown of the children in progress and refreshments were served.
All nine schools from Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey and North Down will be represented in the forthcoming publication - 'Lough Views: A Children's Anthology of Poetry, Art and Drama' due in September 2003.
