Incorporated in 1900, Round Hill, Virginia, population 500, is located 15 miles west of Leesburg, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. From 1875 to 1896, Round Hill was the terminus of the Washington & Old Dominion train line which carried tourists away from the unhealthy summer time environs of late nineteen century Washington, DC. Many of the older, victorian-style homes once served as inns and boarding houses in order to accommodate this seasonal migration.
While there is no train today, Round Hill is still easily accessible via Virginia Route 7. Located only 45 miles from Washington, DC, it is still a desirable get away destination due to its close proximity to the Shenandoah River (7 miles), Shenandoah National Park (30 miles), the Appalachian Trail (4 miles), Harpers Ferry (15 miles), the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Tow Path (12 miles), the Washington & Old Dominion Bike Trail (3 miles), and numerous other seasonal activities. For more photos of the other houses in town, visit the Town of Round Hill's website and their Streets of Round Hill page. |
| Round Hill is conveniently located for commuting to Washington, DC, Tysons Corner, and the high-tech Dulles corridor. There is commuter bus service into Washington, DC that leaves from Purcellville, three miles to the east. | |
