Please use the AR, ER, IR, irregular verb and grammar pages to review.  You need to know how to conjugate them in the present and preterit perfect forms--this includes all irregular verbs as well.  The links are at the bottom of the page.

Update:  A Current Events guidelines page has been added.  Please use the link at the bottom of the page.

Class requirements and scoring standards:

Throughout the year students will have a variety of class assignments that will include written, verbal (conversational practice in class), listening, and reading as well as projects and current events.  Graded assignments are broken down into the following areas:

Classwork:                  Classwork assignments are to be completed in class daily.  Some assignments may last for more than one day.  In that case, the student is to keep their paper until the assignment is completed and then turn it in on the assigned date.

Homework:                 Homework assignments will be given on most days of the week.  Students are also expected to study and review their notes every night.  If a specific assignment has not been given, it is expected that the student will spend 10 minutes studying and reviewing the appropriate unit in preparation for the next class (this is crucial for success).  Homework assignments will be checked in class daily.  Late homework assignments will not be accepted!  Homework is to be turned in on the day that it is due, with proper headings including the student’s name on each page.

Tests / Quizzes:                       There will be approximately 2-3 tests and several quizzes per trimester.  All tests will be announced at least 3 days prior to the test date.  If the school schedule changes due to inclement weather or assemblies, the test may be rescheduled.  Quizzes will be given periodically to make sure that students are mastering the appropriate material and to reinforce studying.  These will be short quizzes from 10 to 30 points.

Current Events / Projects:     Once per trimester, students will be expected to select an article on a current event in the news that pertains to a Spanish-speaking country or to Hispanic or Latin American people and write a review on the article.  They will present it to the class on an assigned day.  They will be graded for their presentation and their review.  They will not be tested on this material.  Requirements for the Current Events will be given to the students separately.  There will also be approximately one project per trimester.  The specific requirements will be given to students when the assignment is given.

Make-up work:           Students will be allotted one day for each missed day to make up missed assignments.  It is the student’s responsibility to get the appropriate assignments from me, complete them, and turn them in.

Class participation:    Though not an “assignment”, class participation is an important part of any classroom.  In the Spanish classroom, it is especially important, as students must participate in order to practice speaking and using the Spanish language.  The grading scale for participation is as follows:

A = 93 to 100              Student attends class daily, listens without distracting others, and frequently volunteers information that adds significantly to class discussions.

B = 85 to 92                Student attends class daily, listens without distracting others, and
regularly  volunteers to add something to class discussions.

C = 75 to 84                Student attends class daily, listens without distracting others, but rarely adds
to  class discussions unless called on by the teacher.

D = 70 to 74                Student attends class daily, but detracts from class period.

E = 60 to 69                Student frequently misses class and detracts from class period when present.

Other than academic expectations, I have very high standards and expectations for behavior.  It is imperative that students learn to respect each other and to learn to regulate their actions.  I will enforce St. John’s discipline plan and contact parents when infractions occur.  An orderly environment must be maintained in order for all to learn.

My classroom rules are as follows:

       1.                  Enter the room quietly and sit in your assigned seat unless you have permission to get up.

2.                  Raise your hand for permission to speak.

3.                  Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

4.                  Follow directions the first time they are given.

5.                  Treat others with respect.

Students will be given 1 warning and then they will receive an infraction.  The rest follows as per the discipline code outlined in the student handbook.
