Kindergarten AM and PM:
We will learn the Spanish names for colors,
numbers, school supplies and foods, while exploring Spanish speaking
cultures through traditional stories from Mexico and around the Spanish
speaking world, listening to music and projects such as "ojos de dios". |
| Grade
1 We will continue to
explore what we began last year. We will learn the Spanish names for
pets, parts of the body, and numbers to 20, as well as adding more school
supplies and food to the words we've already learned. Of course,
we'll also learn how to greet friends and teachers in Spanish and how to
introduce ourselves! We will also listen to stories in Spanish as
well as experience traditional music and crafts. |
| Grade
2 In Grade 2, we'll be
very busy! We will start to use our Spanish to ask for classroom
items and to listen to directions. We will also add to our
vocabulary by learning the Spanish vocabulary for place settings ( to add
to our food unit!), clothing, animals (not just pets!), numbers to 30, and
weather! We will also listen to stories in Spanish and learn about
celebrating the holidays in Mexico and Spain. |
| Grade
3 We will begin by
learning days of the week and months of the year! We will also study
numbers to 100, seasons, fun activities, and transportation! We'll
explore the cultures of Latin America through holidays and celebrations,
music and art! |

4 Fourth grade is the first year that students receive their own Spanish book. The text we use is ¡Hola!, an elementary primer for Spanish students. It is a good text for learning vocabulary and beginning grammar, including verbs and pronouns. We will work through Unidad 3, and will cover introductions and greetings (building on what they have already learned), classroom items and directions, animals, shapes, places and days of the week, months and numbers. Though these are familiar topics, they are now being used in sentence form, and the stress is on combing words and phrases to make complete sentences in Spanish. |
