The crossed faces of Marcia Lorenzato's art works ''Being in front of Marcia Lorenzato's works, one after another, is to enter in her intimate imagination and to live the unexpected effect of the creative act in balance on a thread. What could be more representative of that equilibrium than a vertical red axis on which images are pivoting. What could be more intimate than beds where personal photographs of the past lie down. The bed sheets are semi-transparent screens where images are revealed and concealed by the lights wisely layed out at the back of the prints, showing a few blind spots. The oblique stroke in the work with children swings seems among other things to weigh the innocent lightness of youth against the straight and clear look appearing in the work with the old lady, just besides it. Balancing, weighing, hefting, in order to better measure''. Marc Audette, York University, Toronto, 01.09. 2002 Exhibition Rsistances, Shawinigan Arts Centre, Qubec, 2002 |
