We
all know that there is more to Hiei Jaganashi than the name, the eye
color and the techniques. He is many things in one. Here are the many
faces of Hiei Jaganashi:
The
Forbidden Child of Koorime
Hiei
Jaganashi was born in the Land of Ice. Unfortunately for him, he had a
twin sister because that made him forbidden. A twin of both sexes is
considered a curse in their land and to prevent their belief of
the great damage that the male child may bring, they have to get
rid of him. What bothered them most was that Hiei's body emits blazing
fire, a prophecy that a Fire Demon was born and a fact that made them
convinced that he was indeed a curse. Wrapped in a thick covering and a
pearl necklace placed in his hand, a friend of Hiei's grieving mother
threw him over a cliff into a flowing river.
Hiei did not meet
death at the end of the river, instead a thief took him with the
interest on the pearl necklace clutched in his hand. Hiei, even as a
baby managed to keep the necklace from being taken away from him. He
grew up with that man who took him and with other thieves, but there was
no trust at all. These thieves are still interested on stealing his
pearl necklace. But Hiei would not allow it, if he has to kill for it,
he will. That pearl necklace is his most priced possession, his only
connection to his past and to that woman who threw him to the river. He
became fierce, he became blood-thirsty. He loved fighting, he loved
killing. So much that he reached the point when the people he grew
up with already shoved him away. And so the forbidden child of
Koorime went on along life on his own with the pearl necklace in his
hand, a sword by his side and vengeance to the Land of Ice in his mind.
Hiei:
The Vengeful Demon
Living
all alone without a home, Hiei spent a lot of his time fighting. He was
really troubled emotionally. He was lost, nobody can deny that fact. His
only reason for living he believed is that he will not die without
killing every female being in the land who forbid him as a child.
The only peace he
gets is when he contemplates alone with the pearl necklace in his hand.
It gives him a sense of tranquility, it makes him find himself even for
just a short while. But then, his most priced possession was taken away
from him. He lost the necklace during a fight. Accidentally dropping
it from the edge of the cliff into the flowing river - his only way to
peace was taken away from him. And so, his finding the pearl necklace
and his revenge to the Land of Ice became his two reasons for going on
with life.
Hiei
Jaganashi, The Determined
Determined
to find the Land of Ice and start his revenge, Hiei thought that it
would be easier if he had a third eye. In this way, finding Koorime
would be just a piece of cake. And so he set off to get a Jagan. He got
it from the man named Shegure. The operation is not exactly child play
and the patient may lose every energy he has. But in spite of this, Hiei
went through the whole process.
And with the
third eye, the sword in his hands, the sleeping Black Dragon in his arm
and revenge in his mind, Hiei found the land which forbid him. Oddly
though, the stubborn, the rebel, the hateful Hiei did not push through
with his plan of vengeance. Instead after he found the lady who threw
him to the river, the grave of his mother and the fact that his twin
went off and left Koorime to find him, Hiei set his mind to search for
his twin sister.
Hiei
Jaganashi, The Brother
In
his search for his sister, Hiei found himself in the Human World. There,
he met Kurama pretending to be human. And somehow he got himself teamed
up with Kurama and another demon and stole three priced possessions of
the Spiritual World. But unfortunately the Spiritual World retrieved
everything they stole.
Certain
circumstances made Hiei and Kurama friends with the Spiritual Detective.
One mission of the Spiritual Detective asks the help of Hiei and Kurama.
They were supposed to rescue an unusual girl abused by a certain
businessman. The girl was said to shed tears of pearls and that is how
the cruel businessman takes advantage of her. He tortured the poor girl
to cry and collects all the pearls she sheds. Kurama, the detective, and
a friend of the detective rescued the abused girl. But Hiei Jaganashi
did not just rescue an abused girl, he rescued a twin sister he had
never seen before.
Yukina, his twin
sister, is one of the few people (if not the only) who hits his soft
spot. A truly caring brother to his sister. He manages to look after
Yukina without letting her know his true identity. He decided that it
was best not to let Yukina know who he really was and threats to hurt
anyone who decides to reveal his identity to her. (read more of Yukina
in The Women in Hiei's Life )
The
Warrior, The Friend
As
a warrior, Hiei we must say is a good one. He never backed down in any
fight and believes that he can beat anyone. Hiei fights for no one but
himself. Or so he believes he does. All his life revolved around
fighting. He must admit that he grew tired of living or fighting, either
way it makes no difference at all for him. And so he chose death in a
fight against the man who helped him way back in his past, Shegure. He
sacrificed his left arm and claimed that he had accomplished everything
he wished for and there's no reason for him to live anymore.
The masked woman
responsible for his fight against Shegure - he found out holds the pearl
necklace he longed to find. But then, he didn't want it anymore. It was
time for death. But that woman believes she is connected to Hiei, they
were kindred souls. She needs him. And so she healed Hiei's wounds and
revealed to him everything behind her mask and he became an ally. (read
more of the masked woman in The Women in Hiei's
Life )
Hiei never really
liked the idea of being called friends with anyone. But actions speaks
louder than words. He may deny his concern for anyone but when help is
needed, he shows up and help.
