Mount Rinjani Treks
One of the most awesome sights
in Lombok is sunrise from the crater rim of Mt Rinjani, an active volcano that
last came to life in 1993. Nevertheless , the view from the top attracts many
hardy trekkers each year. The locals believe it to be a place of special powers
and many make the arduous climb annually.
The best time to climb is
between April and August. On most days , especially in the wet season, the
mountain is shrouded in clouds, so to get a good view of the sunrise you need to
be at the rim early. During the wet seasons the tracks can be slippery and
dangerous and we do not recommend this time for climbing. Even in the dry season
the climb can be tough. Actual climbing skills are not necessary however good
fitness and stamina are required. Porters and a guide will accompany you and
carry all the gear, cook good meals and make sure you don’t get lost on the
various tracks.
Warm clothes are a must as the
nights get cold and good hiking boots must be worn. While the trek can be done
less expensively by yourself the porters and guide make the journey more
comfortable.
BEWARE: as we’ve said, this climb is not without its dangers. Insurance is a must as no responsibility will be taken for accidents or injury sustains on the trek.
