Intro:
This is a Very Unofficial Frequently Asked Questions on Mark Wahlberg. I
DO NOT KNOW him! Don't expect to know everything about
Mark by reading this FAQ. The Media can only show a part of a person's
personality and the viewpoints are often skewed by the writer/editor.
All answers are based on info from the net, magazines, interviews and my
fuzzy memory. (Hey I'm going toward 25 and used up my brain cells at
school).
Hopefully this will answer all those basic questions you
want to ask but were afraid you'd get your head chomped off for being
the 100th person to ask. I didn't include silly questions like shoe size
and boxers or briefs (OK it's boxers. Diane Sawyer asked!) I just don't
think they're all that important. Seriously, if you really want to
know, ask him yourself! There's also a bit of personal commentary,
ignore it if you want. I'm just opinionated. Further research can be
accomplished by seeing the misc. section.
I've done what I can to be as accurate as possible. If
you have corrections/additions let me know. E-mail: [email protected]
Distribution: Feel free to
post all or parts anywhere just keep my name on it and let me know where
it is. I'd like to visit :-)

FEAR
Soundtrack
yvebart posted October 18, 2001 01:37 AM
-------------------
You will never find them. They were just done for the soundtrack and
never released for any distribution.
I work for Universal who distributed the film and I did some research,
as I didnt work for them in 1996. I found out that the soundtrack was
never intended to be released and that Mark recorded the songs under the
agreement that they would never be released.
Thats what I was told by someone who said she worked on
the film so not giving 100% truth to him only agreeing to record the
songs if they arent released but if its true then we can stop looking
for the songs.
I know for a fact as it was in print that the soundtrack
was not released and never intended for release.

e. Where do I get all of Mark's
music?
Most of Mark's stuff is out of circulation. So your best bets are
auctions thru E-Bay or other auction sites. Make sure you read the small
print. Visit used cd stores and stores that specialize in Euro imports.
You may get lucky. I know a store in Berkeley, Ca that had one of
Mark's German singles. Don't know if they still have it, but try big
college towns. If you're in Europe, you may have an easier time finding
Mark's post-US stuff, especially if you're in Germany. You can beg
whomever has them to make copies for you. You can try to get them off
Napster or other P2P clients, but not all of the songs are there when
you log in. It's been 2 years and I still don't have all of Mark's
stuff.
f. Where do I get the lyrics?
The US albums have the lyrics on the inserts. The albums he did with
Prince Ital Joe didn't have the lyrics, so you'll have to figure it out
yourself (I've heard it's hard because of Joe's accent). There used to
be a bunch on the Markymark.com site, but those disappeared in 1998-99.
There's a few posted on other people's sites, but a majority were taken
off because of copyright. Annie M was smart enough to print the lyrics
off the site. You can send requests to [email protected]
g. How did Mark's music do in the

i. I found a bunch of music by DJ
Marky Mark, but it doesn't sound like him. Hey what's this about him
doing 'I'm too sexy'?
DJ Marky (no Mark) is a different person. He is a European DJ and is
not related in any way to Mark. For some reason Napster and other MP3
sites also has Right Said Fred's single as being performed by Mark. If
you're unsure about a song, check with CD databases online, they're used
by Winamp and other audio programs to show titles of CDs if you play
them while online. You can search to see all the titles of Mark's
works. That's where I got the above list.
j. Will he make music (ie release
a record) again?
Unsure. Most likely if allowed to do it on his own terms and not as
Marky Mark. He does sing (altho blended with other singers voices) in
Rock Star (not on the soundtrack) even if it is in his least favorite
kind of music!
k. What about Limp Bizkit?
Mark had a very tiny cameo on their Chocolate Starfish and Hot Dog
Flavored Water album. It's just a phone message on Fred's machine. I
transcribed his tiny bit in my transcript section.
IV. Calvin Klein
Era
a. How did Mark become a Calvin Klein model?
Mark was becoming famous for dropping his pants during his concerts and
supposedly David Geffen noticed it. He told his pal Calvin Klein about
Mark. Mark was famous, red hot in popularity (and looks :-) ) and was
already showing his undies. Why not have him wear CK? They flew Mark up
to the Hamptons in NY and signed a 6-month deal in 1992. After the
initial success, Mark was signed on for another year, the contract
ending in December 1993 to advertise CK men's underwear and Jeans.
b. Why did he stop?
Calvin Klein phased out the ad campaign and did not renew his contract.
Dec. 92: the Shabba Ranks incident (see section VII) where Mark stood
his ground on defending Shabba's right to free speech. GLADD (Gay and
Lesbian Alliance Against Anti-Defamation) asks for an appology. Jan-Feb.
93: the Village Voice 'expose' about the racial aspects of Mark's
assault in 1988. Feb. 93: GLAAD & CAAV (Committee Against
Anti-Asian Violence) threatened to have huge protests in front of Mark's
billboard in Times Square. CK had Mark appoligize publically and do
PSAs (Public Service announcements).
Mark's contract was renewed April 93 for the rest of the
year. There were still smaller protests, but by in large, CK continued
the wildly sucessful ad campaign. Summer of 1993: the Madonna incident
(see section VII) and various brawls/lawsuits overwelmed the CK PR
machine. The ads dropped to a trickle and the contract was allowed to
die.
Mark actually wasn't very satisfied as a model. He
wasn't allowed to say anything he wanted and it did nothing in promoting
his music. In the end he felt like a "torso." So he was happy to leave
it behind and start a very sucessful acting career.
c. Mark's Impact?
Despite the fact Mark disliked the time as a model he made a huge mark
(pun intended) in fashion. He resurrected the Calvin Klein's designer
jeans line, which had been languishing since Brooke Shields campaign
('Nothing gets between me and my Calvins') in the 80s. Also because of
him, male models are more recognized (and paid more then he was) &
raised the status of men's underwear! There would be no Joe Boxer
without him!

*Still Playing
e. Acting influences?
The directors and actors he's worked with. Penny Marshall was probably
the most influential, as she discovered him, giving him a real movie
role, having him absorb from the cast and crew of Renaissance Man and
ultimately feeding his acting bug.
f. Fave actors?
He's a very big admirer of James Cagney, Steve McQueen and Martin
Scorsese.
g. Favorite role?
Mark hasn't really picked any one role as his favorite. As he's only
done 15 movies so far, he may want to see what else is in store.
VI. Personal
stuff
a. Who is Mark dating?
Update: Mark &
Jordanna are no longer a couple. He had been dating her since 1998.
Update #2: Mark is
currently with Rhea Durham and their daughter Ella born August 2003.
b. Is he married to Jordana/Rhea?
We've covered this over and over again since 1999 and it's caused some
members to bang their heads against the computer repeatedly. The answer
is NO! Read E's response or check my site for links to articles stating
such. When he wants you to know, you'll know.
c. Does Mark smoke?
No, according to his interview on Good Morning America. He quit late
1999/early 2000.
d. So is Mark gay? (My
Brother-in-law's fave question) Does he hate homosexuals?
Not that I'm aware of. And even if he was gay, it's his business and
wouldn't change my view of him.
As for charges of homophobia, one should note Mark did
alot of shows at gay clubs and has friends and family who are gay.
From US Magazine 1992: Mark said "I like women, but I
know everyone has their own likes and dislikes, and I respect that. I
mean I like people to like what I like, and if it's me, cool. Gay people
are really the most chill people. They're also very artistic. They're
just mellow."
e. What about the Madonna feud?
A magazine reported Mark said Madonna looked like Beetlejuice and she
confronted him at a party in 1992. They argued and supposedly he told
one of her entourage he "looked like a homo." He said he was misquoted
by the UK tabloids about saying she didn't look like what he expected.
At Madonna's party Madonna confronted him on the misquote. She
supposedly threatened him with bodily harm. After leaving the party,
some of Madonna's entourage started a fight with him. According to Mark,
Madonna said, "All right if you want to try to be smart and say
some thing about me to the press, then I'm going to fuck with you." He
denies calling anyone a 'homo' or 'faggot' and believes it was mostly a
publicist spreading false news.
f. What about the Shabba Ranks
thing?
On the British show, The Word in 1992, Mark did not condemn the
anti-gay statement by the reggae rapper. He said in the 1994 Advocate
Interview: "I was on my own, in the corner, sitting there while they
were off interviewing Shabba. I didn't even see or hear what he said
until I saw the videotape. Then I saw that he said he followed the
Bible, and gays shoudl be crucified. I was like, "Well, wait a second
here!" Siudedenly people were at me with "You were endorsing him, and
you and him were saying that gays should be crucifried" I said, "I
didn't say anything except 'Leave me the hell alone' to the ladies on
the show because they kept bothering me."
So I did this little rap, and at the end a commotion
started, and I was like, "Fuck you! Fuck The Word. Fuck everybody! I can
say whatever the hell I want. Shabba can say whatever the hell he
wants. And you can say whatever the hell you want!" And then I walked
off and threw the microphone down.
I was so mad at them telling that I needed Oxy on my
face! They were totally disrespecting me. The show was known for that.
They were going crazy on me. So I was just sitting there in my own
world. When I watched it, I was like, "wow!" I felt I should of said
something.
g. What about him being in jail?
Mark wasn't an angel when he was a kid growing up. Besides stealing
from passed out drunks and dealing drugs, he was arrested for assaulting
a man in 1988.
Mark explained in July 2000's GQ: "The plan that
night was to go out and rob the pharmacy and steal the scratch-off
tickets and take the register. [...] The pharmacy was about to close,
and the security guard was outside with a stick with a hook on it to
pull down the iron grate. When he put the stick down, Mark grabbed it.
"I hit the security guard from behind, ran into the store. [...] There
was a girl working the register that we knew, so we ran behind the
counter and took all the scratch tickets, took money out of the
register. Then we went down another street. We'd been drinking all
night. So we're standing in front of the liquor store, and this guy
comes out with two cases of beer. So I go to do the same thing. I go to
hit the guy across the arm. The stick hit him in the shoulder, came up,
the hook hit him in the eye and the temple. He lost the eye. I didn't
know it then."
He was swinging from his heels, and as the stick hit
the man, Mark fell on the sidewalk. His friend, who was kicking the
victim, starting kicking Mark, who gathered up some of the beer, ran
down a side street, popped a beer and came back to the scene. The next
thing, they tell him, he was attacking someone in a car, screaming, when
detectives who'd been called to the scene, happened by.
So he started to fight the detectives. When they had
him in cuffs at the station, he kicked at another cop and broke the
man's nose."
Mark was tried as an adult and sentenced for about three
months of a suspended 2 year term at Plymouth County Correctional
Facility. He served less than 90 days because of time served while
waiting for trial. If he had been tried as a juvenile, he would have
been in Juvenile Hall until he was 18.
h. What about the Eminem?
Eminem mentions Mark in a few of his songs, both good and bad. They had
an awkward meeting on MTV's TRL. Personally I think Eminem just attacks
everyone to create controversy. It's the ultimate marketing
scheme.
i. Where does he live?
Mark spends a bit more time out in California these days and according
to E, rents an apartment somewhere in Los Angeles. He also spends a bit
of time with his mom's house out in Braintree. Update:
per LA Times article 7/22- He will be buying a house in the LA area. Update #2: According Forbes it's in
Beverly Hills.
VII. The Mark
Wahlberg.com Website
a. Who is Mark S? Mark Shields?
He is the webmaster of Mark Wahlberg.com and Admin of all the
message boards. (This Mark is available :-)) For more info on the man
himself, go to http://www.markshields.com/
b. What's this about when it
became official? Was it unofficial before?
The site formally only Markymark.com, was an unofficial site run by
some Dutch fans beginning in 1996. It was the only place to find info on
the man for us poor Americans who thought he dropped off the face of the
earth. The people who ran the site decided to let go of the site as Mark
was leaving the Europe scene. In 1998, Mark Shields acquired the site
and by 1999 was approached to turn the unofficial site into an official
one.
c. Who is E? E Factor?
E Factor is Mark's personal assistant. His real name is Eric Weinstein
and met Mark during 'The Basketball Diaries' where he was a consultant.
He posts semi-frequently at the Mark Wahlberg.com Message Boards and I
think we all appreciate the time he puts in to update us fans.
d. How do I ... on Markwahlberg.com's Message board?
All the answers are in the MB's FAQ's.
e. Things that annoy people on
Message boards/newsgroups/mailing lists.
TYPING ALL IN CAPS! Unless your keyboard is broken, use
Caps sparingly. It amounts to shouting and nobody likes to to be shouted
at all the time.
Not reading old posts. I know there are a lot of posts,
but reading down a bit will probably help a lot. Lurking (ie reading and
not posting) for a few weeks is the best advice. Some groups/boards can
be very vicious with people who don't know what they are talking about
or asking simple questions. In heavily posted areas, use one's search
button to find answers to your question instead of asking 'what are you
talking about?' The Mark Wahlberg Message boards has a search function,
play with it until you get a hang of it. For mailing lists, if you
missed a mailing, check the archives. In the case of EGroups/One list
go to http://groups.yahoo.com.
News groups will be searchable when Google finishes their
conversion.
No dissing. No racist remarks, personal attacks or
lying. Just because you are not posting under your real name, it doesn't
give you the right to act like an uncivilized person. You should act as
you would face to face. Of course if you're just rude by nature, try to
tone it down, as sarcasm doesn't translate too well on the Internet.
Awful spelling. A few spelling mistakes aren’t a
problem, but just atrocious, unreadable spelling and grammar will turn
people off and may cause insults directed toward you. If English is your
second (or 3rd language), posting in your own language may be better if
you've haven't studied it for a few years. Or use Babblefish and edit
into simple English. You don't need to use big words.
Swearing. Depends on the list/board/group. Usually
public boards will filter bad language. Mark is known to have a potty
mouth at times, but as his fans range from young to mature, try not to
use too much bad or raunchy language.
Trolls. These are people who come onto
lists/boards/groups just to cause problems by creating arguments,
spreading lies, clogging lists or selling stuff. Ignore them and they
will go away.
Off topic in wrong areas. If you have to post outside
the Off topic area, label your post as OT (off topic). It's a real pain
when people post very off topic things in the wrong areas. Besides
causing more work for the administrators, it can bury otherwise more
important/relevant posts.
Read the instructions. I'm a bit anal and read
instructions, FAQs and research in spades. It helps in stopping any big
problems newbies may encounter. If you hate doing things like that, at
least read the introductive E-mail sent when you join and lurk until you
think you have a handle of the community. For extra points: see if
there is someone who seems to be the most knowledgable and E-mail them
personally. Usually people like to help new people who make the effort
not to jump feet first and make huge faux pas.
f. Abbreviations
LOL - Lots of Love or Laughing Out Loud
ROTFL - Rolling on the Floor Laughing
ROTFLMAO - Rolling on the floor laughing my a** off

VIII. Current
a. Where is Mark right now? What is his next
project?
I really don't know anything except what I find on the 'net. If it's
not on this site, you can probably check the message boards and see if E
Factor wrote something recently.
b. I just read Mark was gay,
married, arrested, etc. in the National Enquirer, The Star, etc.?
I personally love a good rumor, but I refuse to archive news from
crappy gossip rags. They are highly unreliable and often wrong. What do
I consider reliable? Liz Smith, who is syndicated in nearly every big
paper, is one of the best and Mark talks to her!
c. What's this
about him hosting Temptation Island on Fox?
No, differnt guy. That would be Mark L. Walberg, a tv show host veteran
who is often misidentified. Notice he has no H in his last name.

1. Any worth buying?
Depends. Personally only Lynn's book is worth it as it was officially
sanctioned by Mark. The other two are retreads of info found in fan
magazines. I'm not sure about Shay's book, but Annie M said it was a
nicely done book. Update: I highly
recommend the Advocate Interviews if you don't have the '94 issue that
featured Mark's interview. It reprints the interview with him and is one
of the best ones I've read.

c. Games
Sega CD - Marky Mark: Making My Video (doesn't play on a regular
CD-Rom, CD or DVD player, you need the Sega CD System itself)
d. Where do I get all this stuff?
Most of Mark's music is out of circulation. So your best bets are
auctions thru E-Bay or other auction sites. You can also try online CD
sale sites based outside the US (ends in xxx.de for example), but you'll
pay thru the nose for shipping if you're not around the area. Also
shipping can take forever or get lost. Some countries have little
protection from fraud, so read everything before buying things off the
Internet.
Visit used cd stores and stores that specialize in Euro
imports. You may get lucky. I know a store in Berkeley, Ca. that had one
of Mark's German singles. Don't know if they still have it, but try big
college towns. You can beg whoever has them to make copies for you. You
can try to get them off Napster, but not all of the songs are there
when you log in. It's been a year and a half and I still don't have all
of Mark's stuff.
His films are easier to find, tho Renaissance Man and
The Substitute are hard to find. Best bet is to try Blockbuster.com for
those two. The others should be in any video/electronic store and online
sources.
