It is with great pleasure that The Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway
Company Ltd. wishes to announce a significant development in the
progress of the heritage project currently being undertaken at the
former colliery site at Cynheidre, near Llanelli. The company is now in
a position to announce that it has been awarded a grant from Welsh
Assembly Government Aggregates Levy Sustainability fund, which totals
seventy three thousand, five hundred and one pounds. This grant will ensure that the laying of ballast, track,
pointwork and the construction of a steam locomotive shed is now just a matter
of time. The company hopes to be in a position to operate a passenger
carrying service in the early part of next year, with Easter as an
initial target. By this time we will have received our 0-4-0 Avonside
Saddle Tank no. 1498 'Desmond' from overhaul at the Llangollen Railway
as a result of an earlier grant totaling fifty thousand pounds for the locomotives
restoration, awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
As a result of the development the company has opened a fotopic account

has been made over the many years of hard work and this site will continue to be updated in due course. We also now take this
opportunity to give readers the opportunity to become involved in the
project in any way possible, whether it is as a voluntary labourer, or
indeed as a distant contributor.
