Welcome to My Personal Antidepressant

While I was attending Brigham Young University, I started collecting quotes in a small notebook. I collected them from what I read and what I heard in talks and conversation. Some came from friends who had similar collections. Some came from handouts in school and Church.

I read through this little notebook when I get depressed and it always cheers me up. See if it does the same for you. I think some of the pleasure for me is derived from the realization of how much I have grown since feeling moved one way or the other by these words and writing them down. Some still move me. Some make me smile. Some just seem like pat answers; simple answers to complex issues. Some I now cringe at and am tempted to leave out.

It is a rather eclectic collection and the entries are arranged in the order in which they were collected. Take it how it comes and take it for what it is worth. I hope you enjoy my little collection. None of this material is my own creation, though I am sorely tempted to editorialize about some of these but for the time being I shall refrain. I did cite sources when I knew them. If you happen to know the source of any quote in these pages please contact me through the email link found at the bottom of each page and I will be glad to give credit where credit is due.

Marriage is like a card game,
	They start with a pair,
He shows a diamond, she shows a flush,
and they end up with a full house.

The Lord likes jokes too, if he didn't he wouldn't have made some of us.

Real friends are those who, when you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel you've done a permanent job.
Knowledge is Power ~ Lord Bacon
Few minds wear out, most rust out.
Faith is a gift from God.
The difference between a mudpot and a geyser is enthusiasm.
Mary had a little lamb. It grew into a sheep. And then it joined the Mormon Church And died from lack of sleep.
Life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it. ~Irving Berlin
It takes less time to do a thing right than it does to explain why you did it wrong. ~Longfellow
Sisters
Sisters are not always those
Whose parents are the same;
Sisters are not just the ones
Who share the same last name.
It is not hard to understand,
You'll know them when you find
That special smile, that timely word,
That deed that was so kind.
The Sisters of the flesh are ours
To cherish, help and love,
But sisters of the spirit, too
Are sent from up above.

Never tell evil of a man if you do not know it for a certainty, and if you know it for certain, then ask yourself, "Why should I tell it?"

The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook.
~William James

Happiness is an inside job.

Nobody ever falls over a cliff, if they don't go near the edge.

Love is the feeling that you feel when you feel that you feel a feeling that you never felt before.

Seven days without praying makes one weak.

A used minute is one item that has more value than a new one.

When you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.

You can't kill time without injuring eternity.

Everyone should strive each day to beat yesterday's record; not someone else's.

I am a princess of noble birth
My father sent me here to earth
To live, to learn, to love, be true,
Return to him when life is through.
I'm of a priesthood lineage divine,
The priesthood offers gifts sublime;
Baptism, Holy Ghost, Sacrament too,
To strengthen me, my covenants renew.
I'm a princess of royal birth,
With gifts from God of priceless worth,
The priesthood blessing he prepared for me,
Will crown me queen for Time and all Eternity.

I wish I was a little egg away up in a tree.
I wish I was a little egg as rotten as could be.
And when some silly bonehead would start to yell at me
I'd drop my little rotten self, and splatter down on he.

She rose to his requirement, dropped the playthings of her life to take the honorable work of woman and of wife. ~Emily Dickenson

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday and all is well.
No pain we suffer, no trial we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the developement of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure. especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our souls and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God ... and it is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we came here to acquire and which makes us more like our Father and Mother in heaven. ... ~Elder Orson F. Whitney
It took Michelangelo twelve years, one brush stroke at a time to paint the Sistine Chapel. It took Brahms twenty years, one note at a time to compose his First Symphony. It took Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay eight days, one step at a time to climb the 29,000 feet of Mount Everest. Word by word, brush stroke by brush stroke, note by note, step by step, problem by problem, prayer by prayer, this is the secret of achievement.
Love comes quietly ... but you know when it is there because you suddenly are not alone anymore ... and there is no sadness inside you. ~Joan Walsh Anglund
What is a friend?

A friend is trust,
A friend is warmth,
A friend is always there,
To add to every happiness
To lessen every care ...

A friend is understanding
A friend is "sharing," too.
That's just the kind of
Special friend
That I have found in you.
