| It's really not hard to eat well. Here are some easy things to keep in mind. Don't do all this stuff at once, but if you see something here that you haven't tried, try it out and see how it works for you. - Always, no matter what, eat breakfast. - If you want it, eat it, just don't eat all of it. - Add fruit to cereal or oatmeal. If you don't eat either, have a piece of fruit with breakfast. - Buy vegetables and prepare them as soon as you get home. For example, buy celery and cucumbers, and when you get to the kitchen, cut them up and put them in the fridge. You are more likely to eat them if they are accessible. - Always have salad with dinner. Use a low fat dressing, and put it on the side. Dip your fork in the dressing before each bite, rather than pouring it on the salad. - Steam your vegetables rather than sauteeing. - If you must saute, try doing so in chicken (or vegetable) broth rather than olive oil to cut down on fat. - Watch your sugar intake. Don't cut it out of your diet, but monitor it. - Use egg beaters instead of eggs. - WHOLE WHEAT AND GRAINS. Bread, pasta, cereals, etc. MUCH better for you than standard white products. - Make fruit a part of your dessert. I like fresh fruit with frozen yogurt. Pop the fruit in the microwave before you put the yogurt on for a really great dessert. - Order steamed vegetables or salad as a side instead of the fries. - Limit fried foods. Again, no need to eliminate, just watch it. - Write down what you eat for a week. You'll be surprised. Eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as you can. Juice doesn't really count, the sugar content in most juice is SO HIGH it negates the positive effects of the fruit. |
