The theme for this month was Hawaiian costumes. The reason for this, I am sure, is because of the Texas heat this time of year. It was miserably hot. Fortunately the writer of the scenarios (Crazy Ed) took this into consideration and made the difficulty easier this time. I believe the members appreciated this. There was something like 58 in attendance this month so the 6 posse's were small. All this caused the whole shot to finish about noon rather that 2 or 3 o'clock a usual. The morning meeting was nice as usual with our president, Charles Goodnight, telling us about plans at the Columbus Opera House next Saturday night and about the death of another compadre due to cancer (I didn't know him and didn't catch the name, sorry). Charles thanked Danny Ringo and myself for making, painting and installing the new name sign for the mine in honor of his and all our friend that was killed in a car accident right after Trailhead. The sign read "Three Fingers Jack Mining Company". Then he recognized me and my painting of "Flame" that they are hanging on the outside of the Curls Saloon and Hotel. Then they all gave us a round of applause for the work we (mostly Danny Ringo) have done at Gunsmoke in the 8 months we have been members. That was nice but there were also many others that have done a lot of work as well. Danny Ringo and I want to return the honor and applauses to those. I would like to take this chance to set the record straight about the painting. I didn't totally donate the painting. The painting was purchased by the club and funds donated by Roben Talon (a board member). I gave them a price and donated a portion myself. This will be more clear if you read the plaque attached to the painting. Pepper wanted to take the credit of being the model for the painting. :-) FYI the body was from Rose in the movie Titanic and the rest was the artists creation. I got some really good photos from some nice pards and pardetts. We were all having a lot of fun with the Hawaiian costumes this month. Welcome THSS Members!
