LILY SAVAGE - THE WICKED QUEEN

Lily began her career as a pub and club entertainer, where she worked for years, building her audience and honing her talent. Lily moved from South London's Royal Vauxhall Tavern to the London Palladium, sharing the bill with Victoria Wood in 1993 and appearing there in her own show in 1994.

In June 1995 Lily took over as the Big Breakfast'S celebrity interviewer and became known to millions as the 'Queen of the Boudoir'. Since then Lily has graced (and indeed disgraced) many a famous television sofa - from Richard and Judy's to Des O'Connor's. She has also hosted her own television series - Life Swaps for BBC2 and the cult hit - Live From The Lilydrome for Granada.

In November 1996 Lily performed in front of a celebrity audience for the hilarious hour-long ITV special An Evening With Lily Savage. The show attracted over 12 million viewers and was entered for the Montreaux Festival '97 by ITV Network. The show went on to win the award for 'Most Popular Entertainment Programme' at the National Television Awards in October 1997 followed by the 'Best Entertainment Programme' Award at the British Comedy Awards in December 1997.

Lily enjoys popping up on kids' TV, ranging from Bang Bang Chicken on the popular kids' programme Pirates, to looning on The Ant And Dec Show. Other television work includes: Top Of The Pops, That's Showbusiness, Clive James, Des O'Connor, Co-host on Smash Hits Poll Winners Party '96, Late License, The Steve Wright Show, The New Statesman and Brookside.

A sell-out tour in May 1995 (also available on video Lily Savage - Live At The Garrick) was followed by a highly successful twelve-week run in the West End of Prisoner Cell Block H - The Musical. Prisoner then went on the road for a sell-out national tour.

Lily spent the summer of '96 appearing on the North Pier in Blackpool - The Lily Savage Variety Show broke box-office records and ended its four-month run at the beginning of November. This was closely followed by the launch of the video An Evening With Lily Savage, the extended version of the TV special featuring out-takes and gags TV couldn't show. Lily returned to more sell-out nights in Blackpool, this time in the 3,000 seater Opera House with Lily's Christmas Cracker which ran raucously through Christmas and New Year. She was a guest on ITV's Christmas Day extravaganza Christmas With The Stars.

1997 was an even busier year. Lily continued to do guest appearances on TV, including a dramatic entrance in punk gear at An Audience With Elton John and the occasional phone-in on Richard And Judy. From 10th March until 7th June Lily was again on tour nationally with Prisoner Cell Block H - The Musical, and no sooner was that over than she was working on the writing of her new series for BBC1, The Lily Savage Show. The six-part series was transmitted on Sundays at 10.00pm on BBC1 and ran through until 21st December. The Untransmittable Lily Savage Show was a video compilation of some of the 'untransmittable' moments of the recording of the show, released in December. A Christmas Special of Blankety Blank was screened on Boxing Day. In November 1997 Lily was voted 'Best Comedian/Comedienne' by readers of Smash Hits and then went on to be awarded 'BBC TV Personality of 1997' by the Variety Club of Great Britain.

During 1998 Lily recorded two hit series of Blankety Blank and made a much-talked-about appearance on Parkinson with Cilla Black. She wrote her book Lily Savage: A Sort of A-Z Thing which went on sale on October 29th. Lily also appeared in a sell-out nationwide tour which started on the 2nd September in Bournemouth and finished 7th November in Liverpool. A live video was recorded during the tour, Lily Savage The Live Show, which went on sale 16th November

Adding to her awards, Lily won TV Quick awards for 'Funniest Person on TV '98' and 'Best Gameshow '98' for Blankety Blank. She was also awarded 'Personality of the Year 1998' at the Scouseology Awards in Liverpool.

Lily went on to play Miss Hannigan in Annie at the Victoria Palace Theatre which ran from 15th December 1998 until 7th February 1999. She joined the National tour from 13th April 1999 in Bradford, going on to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and later in the year, Manchester, Leeds, Aberdeen and Liverpool. Another series of Blankety Blank was televised on BBC1 Aug/Sept 1999, followed by a Christmas Special. Lily was awarded 'Most Popular Entertainment Presenter' at the National Television Awards held in October 1999.

Lily rejoined Annie at the beginning of November '99 for six weeks before doing panto in Birmingham (The Hippodrome), appearing as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In October 1999 Lily moved channels to work with Carlton Television writing and recording new programmes. The first series of Lily Live was shown on ITV in September/October 2000. Lily then returned to the theatre for her cherished role as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton on 22nd December 2000 breaking box office records.

In the spring of 2001 Lily appeared in a new series of Blankety Blank closely followed by a second series of the Lily Live show. Lily Savage has graced (and indeed disgraced) many a famous television sofa - from Richard and Judy's to Des O'Connor's. She has also hosted her own television series - 'Life Swaps' for BBC2 and the cult hit - 'Live From The Lilydrome' for Granada.

After a sell-out tour in May 1995, followed by a West End run of 'Prisoner Cell Block H - The Musical', Lily then went on the road for a sell-out national tour, revived again in 1997. 'The Lily Savage Variety Show' broke all box office records in Blackpool in '96, a year which also saw the hilarious ITV award winning special 'An Evening with Lily Savage'.

Her new series for the BBC 'The Lily Savage Show' is being transmitted this autumn.

Lily Savage

Once Upon A Time...

... in the far off land of Birkn'ed, live a gorgeous young virgin Kim Novak look-a-like. She was sought by the finest in the land but she was not happy... Then one day a good fairy took pity and appeared in a shimmer of light. "Sweet Lily" she said, her fairy wings glistening in the light of the setting sun, "why are you so sad?" Lily looked up, with tears dropping from her emerald eyes. Sitting alone in the Tower of Eternal Glory, year after year had made Lily lonely surrounded by books and knitting, so she was careful and deliberate before she spoke. Her imprisonment had been harsh but the lack of sun had kept Lily's delicate skin a perfect rose white. The Good fairy rested her hand on Lily's and spoke again. "Tell me, sweet one - why are you so unhappy?" Lily's ruby lips quivered as she drew breath to speak. "Good Fairy", she said, "why don't you shove it, floating up there like a whore on acid - my Bunty's just married a Hells Angel, Jason's tattoo has gone septic and I've got you trying it on asking stupid arse questions about whether I'm alright, so just get back on your broom and sod off..."

WELCOME TO LILY SAVAGE ON TOUR 1995

This delectable beauty...

... was born on a serge blue policeman's cape outside the Legs Of Man public house. Liverpool did not know what had hit it during one summer of the 1950's - Lily is decidedly cagey about the exact date, but for those historians amongst you, it was rumoured that this diva's birthday fell on the feast day of St. Veronica. It was also the day that Ruth Ellis was hanged.

Surprisingly, Lily never actually knew her father. Apparently he was a rugged Irish seaman - Lily's mum does seem to recollect a broad Irish accent after conception. And during negotiation.

Her striking mother was the infamous lady wrestler from the Wirral - the posh bit. She was known as Hellcat Savage, and went onto adopt a sister for Lily.

Vera was the unfortunate sister left on Hellcats grimey doorstep. According to Lily... she is rather ugly.

Lily was semi-educated at the exceedingly well-known St. Winifreds Reform School.

This actually followed on from her well-publicised first shop-lifting conviction - due to be filmed as a t.v. mini-series during the summer of 1995.

Lily is from what you and I might call a 'classically socially deprived background', though consultant psychologists are at odds to categorise any of the Savage clan.

Later on in her illustrious career, Lily was dismissed from the nursing profession (BUPA, General Medical and Walthamstow Williams Retirement Establishment) for being 'far too provocative'. She then went on through a large succession of no-where jobs. Her career ultimately peaked as senior counter assistant on the Pick N Mix at the local Lambeth Woolworths. Eventually our Lily became known as the INTERNATIONAL SEX KITTEN FOR THE 90'S.

She is renowned for her remarkable platinum curls, with Sir David Attenborough once mistaking her blonde bee-hive for a local Maori's hut.

She loves to hob-nob with the rich and famous and can count Christopher Quentin, Paul Raymond and the Krays as her personal chums. (She's also an occasional clairvoyant...)

In her colourful past she has personally liaised with a number of Rochdale politicians. Lily has also slid gracefully between the poly-cotton of some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, namely Long John Baldry, the Bay City Rollers and Dana...

But away from all this glitz and glamour lives a down-to-earth bastion of the bus queue, and a veritable pillar of society.

Amongst her many acquired' knick-knacks, Lily resides in her run-down Lambeth Council flat attending to the Union of Catholic Mothers (Vauxhall Branch) as their Outings Secretary. She is also a highly respected Riot Consultant with accolades from L.A., Toxteth, Moss Side, Brixton and the Poll Tax riots under her belt. Lily was once the bain and scorge of all West End store detectives. Ultimately though, Lily's faith is constantly tested by those around her.

Daughter Bunty, recently married but still at convent school, gave Lily a grand-daughter, Kylie-Marie. Her son Jason, known to the local paparazzi as The Stockwell Arsonist, is currently residing in Risley Remand Centre.

Love of animals is something Lily prides herself on. It is no surprise then to learn that living with Lily is sister Vera, her whippet called Queenie - both equally incontinent - and two Persian moggies which are permanently on heat. Lily always has a fresh supply of rubber gloves.

So, from her start in the business as Miss Pears 1959 and Miss New Brighton Baths, through to winning a 'classical dancing' competition at the Striperama Club in 1984 (and subsequent arrest), Lily Savage takes to the boards tonight. Last tine she toured to pay off the rent. This time she's back to wreak havoc.

The Equality Show

Lily Savage is an international sex kitten, Kim Novak lookalike, who hails from Wirral. Although renowned for her beauty (a former Miss New Brighton Baths) who hob nobs with the rich and famous, and can count Tony Monopoly and Ann Aston amongst her closest friends, she is a pillar of society, Social Secretary for the Birkenhead Branch of the Union of Catholic Mothers and professional riot consiltant. Lily is the scourge of all the West End store detectives and we won't mention her exotic past - the oldest profession!

At present Lily is on a nationwide tour (not to mention valium) to pay off ten years back rent. This being paid she will be able to live happily ever after in her grotty Lambeth Council flat.

Away from all this glamour Lily lives amongst us in a tumbledown Lambeth Council flat. Here 'around the hearth' Lily is paradoxically both a pillar of society (Outings Secretary for the Union of Catholic Mothers, Vauxhall Branch) and a highly respected Riot Consultant - L.A., Toxteth, Brixton and Poll Tax riots under her belt. Lily is also the scourge of all West End store detectives.

Lily's faith is constantly tested by those around her. Lily started her career at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in 1985 and ever since has been voted Capital Gay's 'Entertainer of the Year'. Her appearance in Best of the Festival at the Edinburgh Festival in 1991 earned her international acclaim and a Perrier Award nomination. Since then Lily has sold out a tour of Australia, a return season in Edinburgh and numerous runs at London's Bloomsbury Theatre including Lily Savage's Christmas Box (1991), Just Lily (1992) and A Spoonful Of Savage. She is a favourite at the Hackney Empire, where she has just hosted the London Fringe Awards.

Being a woman of many talents Lily's career has not been confined to the stage. Her television credits are endless including appearances on The Bill, The Funny Farm for STV, Ring My Bell for LWT and Jonathan Ross. Lily is no stranger to the catwalk and has sported many a design in her time. Katherine Hamnett spotted her potential and included her in the launch of her new collection on the Seine in Paris. Lily also donated her elegance to an evening of glamour at the Royal Albert Hall for the benefit of Fashion Aid. Her face has been known to appear in the glossies, Vogue and Woman's Own to name but two!

If you regularly tune into the airwaves you may have had the indescribable pleasure of hearing Lily creating sheer pandemonium!
