Purpose of Piano Competition

The mission of the Cedar Walton Jazz Piano Competition is to educate musicians in the art of jazz. The Cedar Walton Jazz Piano Competition seeks to promote jazz as an art form by entertaining the public with inspired jazz piano performances and awarding the most fluent performers with opportunities to pursue professional careers in jazz performance and education.

Competition Schedule and Deadlines

  • Deadline for submissions – January 18, 2008
  • Invitation Letters – January 19, 2008
  • Deadline to Confirm Participation – January 21, 2008
  • Selection of Participants – January 20, 2008
  • Opening Reception – January 23, 2008 CVC
  • First Round of Competition – January 23 - 25, 2008 at CVC
  • Jazz Workshop/ Finals/ Press Conference – January 26, 2008
  • Awards Show and Grand Concert – February 5, 2008
