The Watchtower religion teaches that the "fall" of Babylon the Great is a separate occurrence from the "destruction" of Babylon the Great. Their belief is that Babylon the Great fell in 1919. See "Revelation--Its Grand Climax At Hand!," page 260, paragraph 6:
"So by 1919 Babylon the Great had fallen, opening the way for God's people to be released and restored, in one day as it were, to their land of spiritual prosperity."
Personally, I don't think Babylon the Great has anything whatsoever to do with religion. World commerce is what holds sway over the governments, not religion, and that fits the description far better imo. Religion could fall tomorrow, the world over, and the "merchants" could care less. But if there is comes a crash to the international banking system and commerce, watch them "weep."
