Space Wolves - Battle Reports

Space Wolves VS Space Marines

Take and Hold, 1500 points

For my first foray into the 4th edition, it was a complete massacre. I was virtually wiped off the board by the end of the 4th turn.

Learning points:

Assault cannons now are really nasty and tasty. The two assault cannons took down my Venerable Dreadnought in the first turn. Granted it was silly but I forgot about the Venerable Dreadnought special rule and didn't force a re-roll. Oh well. The new apothecary rules are pretty useful too, saving the Terminators a few times and easily earning many times its point cost over in the process. The new rules for the Commander and Chaplains really aid quite a punch to Space Marines, not to mention veteran skills like furious charge.

Being outnumbered, I was out-shot, and out-fought in close combat too. My three Rhinos did almost nothing. With the destruction of my squads, all I could do was to use them to tank shock and they did some use by crushing a few brave but foolish marines who tried a Death or Glory attack. Other than that, they were simply a point sink. Well, I'll take them out for the next game and try to boost my troop count. The new rapid fire weapon rules got me off my footing too. One of my Grey Hunters packs spent two turns exchanging rapid fire fire with a tactical squad. In hindsight, I should just forgo the shooting and charge into close combate where I have the advantage. Other than this two points, overall, I think my army did admirably and there isn't much I'll change yet.

This battle has really shown me that Space Marines are quite the force to be reckoned with still and I'm beginning to itch to try my hand at creating my own Chapter using the new Chapter Traits. Tasty.
