Senator Leyden calls for a reduction in interest rates by Irish banks

Éireann today): People power must come into play if the 0.5% reduction in interest rates is to be implemented. Mr. Joe Duffy and his colleagues on "Liveline"
have been quite active in relation to banking over recent times. I hope

Senator Terry Leyden welcomes €138,000 grant for Roscommon Community Services Programme
Senator Terry Leyden has welcomed the announcement by Éamon Ó Cuív T.D., Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs of €138,588 for
Roscommon Retail Therapy as part of the Community Services Programme. This programme aims to support local community activity which addresses disadvantage, while at the same time providing employment opportunities
for people from the following target groups.
“This is an excellent programme and I am delighted to see the funding being allocated in Roscommon. In times of plenty it is important that we support those in our community who are less fortunate than ourselves.”
CSP employees are paid the minimum wage and have the option of working either full-time or part-time. The activities of the projects funded under the Programme are very varied and include community childcare services, services for the elderly, services for people with disabilities, rural transport for isolated rural communities, managing community halls and facilities, rural tourism, community radio, recycling & environmental projects.

Senator Terry Leyden today called for the Minister for Health to urgently address concerns in relation to Roscommon County Hospital. Speaking in Seanad Eireann the Senator also expressed grave concerns over the lack of accountability of the HSE, noting that he never came across any of the officials of the HSE on a ballot paper.
