Icons
Resting on the blue and red field are the following
icons: four human figures joined together, a golden
lighted lamp, and an image of two uplifting hands which
serves as the base of the lamp.
Four
human Figures
The four human figures, with the following colors:
green, yellow, red and blue – correspond to the four
year levels of the Department (first, second, third and
fourth level, respectively) united as one community of
nursing students embodied with the Four Cardinal virtues
- Wisdom (Sapientia), Justice (Iustitia),
Fortitude (Fortitudo) and Temperance (Temperentia).
The first human figure, represented by green, symbolizes
justice. It is one of the virtues that an aspiring nurse
must possess - to treat every person equally and without
prejudice, regardless of his status in the society. The
second human figure, represented by yellow, symbolizes
temperance. An aspiring nurse must know how to practice
self-control and moderation. It is important that an
individual learns how to resist his or her self desires
for his or her own improvement.
The
third, represented by red, signifies fortitude, or
strength. An aspiring nurse must learn how to develop
the virtue of patience and to be strong enough to face
difficulties and hardships. Finally, the fourth figure,
represented by blue, symbolizes wisdom. To be a
professional nurse means to be equipped with sufficient
knowledge and experience needed for him or her to make
the right decisions and be able to provide the right
kind of care to his or her patients.
Lighted Lamp
The lighted lamp symbolizes the Nursing Profession.
It is attributed in honor of Florence Nightingale,
Founder of Modern Nursing. During the Crimean War, she
and her colleagues served as nurses and treated the sick
and wounded soldiers. She used to make rounds at night
to check her patients, carrying a lamp with her, thus
she became known as, ‘The Lady with the Lamp".
Uplifting Hands
The
pair of hands that serve as the base of the lamp
symbolize the duty of every members of the LNSA to
uplift and preserve the prestige of the organization
bounded by the ideals of the Nursing Profession. |
