Activity one

Break into groups of four.

Select one of the following issues that is important to your country:

  • Poverty

  • Universal suffrage

  • Indigenous people

  • Education

  • Unions

  • Women's rights

Research the issue you select by using the focus question: What laws and attitudes applied to the issue in each of the years?

  • 1998

  • 1965

  • 1955

  • 1945

  • 1928

  • 1908

Locate an Internet site with information about the issue. You may have to use your judgment about the date as there may not be information in your sources for that exact year. The purpose is to find the laws and attitudes to the issues that mattered around this time.

There is a list of electronic newspapers in the resource section. You may need to write an e-mail to the newspaper to find historical information, some have archive sections.

Organize the material from the four years in a way that shows continuity and change in the laws about and attitudes to the issue.

Design a web page called Legacy of History. Hyperlink it to your Equal rights and justice page
