Hello, and welcome to the Boise Highlanders Bagpipe Tutorial page!  This is a page I started to help pipers in our band by offering an easy-access source for various piping information.  The first thing I've included is about doublings: their timing and tips on how to play them cleaner and more effectively.  Later, I hope to include various other subjects that are a concern for many pipers in our band as well as pipers the world over, I imagine.  If you have any questions or comments or would like to ask about/suggest things I could put up here, please email me at [email protected].  Thanks for stopping by and please sign my Guestbook (at the bottom of the page) and let me know you were here!

[New!]

May 13, 2004: Man, I've been in Japan for nine months now!  I can hardly believe it.  And then again, I suppose I can--it certainly has been an adventure at least.  As my time here winds down (I'm only staying until August...for now anyway), my mind is gradually turning back to piping.  A few recent entries in my guestbook hint at a desire to see more added to this page.  In response, I have added a few things that I think might be helpful.  I've provided a brief breakdown of crossing sounds, and added a new videos section, which I'm very excited about.  It's still small, but I'll add to it. However, I want to add more, but I'm not teaching now, so I'm not encountering any regular issues anymore.  What that means is I need some ideas.  What, specifically, are you struggling with?  Is a more detailed breakdown needed for something?  Is something unclear?  One post on my guestbook bemoaned finding "no reason behind the embellishments" to help in remembering them, for example.  If this is a common struggle, can someone please clarify for me?  I think I have a vague idea and will take a stab at it soon, but any other clarification would be nice.  I'm here solely for the hope of helping people, and while I haven't been very good about keeping things updated, I would really like to, so please e-mail me something you'd like to see covered on the site, or post a specific question in my guestbook, and let's get this place hopping!
