Marcie Cohen

Mark Cohen is one of the lead principles in RENT. His character is the observer (a filmmaker) and as such his costume never changes, except for a coat here or a scarf there. Otherwise he remains static, even though the play stretches over a year in timespan.

We didn't sew almost anything of our RENT outfits; there was simply no need. Everything we either had already or bought retail.

The Costume
Maggie already had "Marcie"-like shoes, so that was her starting point. We found the tights at Target, and the pleated skirt at Goodwill (shortened a good five inches). The shirt was an excellent find at Kmart. We didn't know quite what we wanted to do for her top, since the real Mark wears a maroon and turquoise sweater the entire time. Though the final shirt wasn't an exact match, we thought it captured the spirit of Mark's outfit well enough. The coat we also found at Target (not bad for $20), and again was similar but not identical to Mark's flannel coat. Jewelery and hair was all Maggie. :)
