POTC2 Tribal Captain Jack

My little brother, now 14, has decided he wants a more recognizable costume for Halloween 2006. Last year, he was a Jedi Padawan - see the finished costume [here]. The year before, he was Gandalf the White - see that finished costume [here]. Again, since this is a Halloween costume, it won't be completely accurate due to time and budget constraints. No need to worry about putting up unedited pictures of him this year - the wig and face paint do well enough. ;)

Status of Costume: complete

Started: August 2006
Finished: Oct. 20, 2006

Materials Used:
Shirt - unbleached muslin from Joann's
Pants - brown cotton blend, found in the home decor section of Joann's
Vest - heavy gray cotton home decor fabric, also from Joann's; gray lining fabric from the stash
Sashes - crinkled cotton and plain red cotton from Joann's
Headscarf - plain red cotton from Joann's and the cannabilized scarf fabric from the Master Replicas pirate kit; beads from the stash
Headdress - tribal-y cotton fabric, plain red cotton, and red netting from Joann's; fun foam, multicolored raffia, fake skull, dried floral leaves, four fake snakes from Walmart
Toe Necklace - mask and glove set ($12.50), tribal beads from Walmart; black suede cording from the stash
Belts - waist belt from NY&Co. ($13.50) and sword belt from Walmart ($9.95)
Accessories - Master Replicas kit, $13.50 from Walmart: scarf with dreds, rings, tatoo, eye stickers, compass, belt, and sword; vinyl and fabric from Jedi Padawan costume for hand guard and sword holder

Patterns Used:
Pants, Shirt, Vest - Simplicity 4923, modified
Sashes - self drafted, simple rectangles

What I like:
I think the tribal headdress and toe necklace are the coolest things I've ever made. I love how they turned out. Little C was thrilled, of course. Everything fit this year too and is adjustable enough to be worn for many years to come. W00t!

What I would change:
The shirt is way too big. I really want to redo it (and will eventually) but it suffices for now. I also ran out of time to do the buttonholes on the vest as well as the bone-thingy for the wig. I'll eventually complete these upgrades...
