I started planning the Journey of the Phoenix in January of 2002, roughly a week after returning from Europe, fresh from the Road and the Journey of the Comet. Over the next two and a half years, I saved, planned and dreamed about the Phoenix, a trip I saw as the culmination of my career as a Professional Vagabond. A Round The World (RTW) trip that was not bound by any time restrictions. I said two years when I started, my reasoning for that being that if I came home early, it'd be a nice surprise, and if I went over two years, well, everyone would have likely grown used to my absence by then. Though I believe I will always suffer from wanderlust, I also believe that this Journey is the biggest/longest one that I will ever take. |
