Who's That Doll?
PRINCESS TENKO and the
GUARDIANS OF MAGIC
1990's
1990's
The "Princess Tenko" dolls were based on a Saturday morning cartoon show, which in turn was based on Japanese  magician Princess Tenko. She was apprenticed in her youth to the famous Japanese magician Tenko, and when she went out on her own, she honored him by taking his name. Princess Tenko's astounding illusions have won her world-reknown fame.

The cartoon show, "Princess Tenko and the Guardians of Magic" is a show I have never seen, but was produced in the mid-1990's by Saban Entertainment. The dolls quickly followed. The back of the box pretty much says it all:
"The great magician Princess Tenko travels the world performing her amazing shows of magic, illusions and daring feats. With her are her faithful friends, the Guardians of the Magic, who assist with her performances and in her ultimate goal...finding and protecting the Magic Starfire Gems.

"Now the magic is within you, too, as each outfit and gem magically transforms Princess Tenko into a super heroine with the powers she needs to protect the world."
Princess Tenko's body type has a one-piece torso, legs that do not bend, but are jointed at the hips, arms jointed at the shoulders only, and a head that swivels up, down or sideways on her neck post. Shoes are permanently formed as part of her feet, so they cannot be removed or changed.
She has rooted hair and exquisitely painted facial features.

There is also a "Sapphire Sea Dolphin" fashion which I do not currently possess.
Rose Eagle fashion
Helping Princess Tenko to fight the forces of darkness and protect the magic gems were two friends, Ali (right) and Shonti (below right). Shonti was an animal trainer. Two animal friends also helped: Ninjara, a snow leopard, and Pearl Rider, a horse.

Notice the plastic plate on the front of the costume? It is held to the doll magnetically. That's part of the "magic"!
In the cartoon series, Princess Tenko's nemeses were a pair of twins named Jana and Jason, who attempted to gain the magic gems for their own purposes. I have not seen a Jason doll, but below is Jana.
Above is a closer look at Jana, through the packaging, as I'm unwilling to remove her from it at this time. Pardon the glare!
