Who's That Doll?
DISNEY PERFUME PRINCESS and
DISNEY MUSICAL PRINCESS
1990's 1990's
Early in the 1990's Disney took a short trip into the world of miniature fashion dolls with their line of "Perfume Princess" and "Musical Princess" dolls. The Perfume Princesses came with (what else?) perfume in a small bottle that little girls could carry with them. In addition, the Perfume Princess dolls had holes in their backs, up by the neck, which could be filled with the perfume. The Musical Princesses came with stands that played a song from the movie relavant to the Princess featured.

Other Disney dolls were sold as "Bubble Princess" dolls, which came with a small bottle of bubble soap. There were also "Dancing Princesses" who twirled on a stand that played music from the relavent movie. And there were "Musical Classics" dolls which seem to have been similar to the Musical Princess dolls.

Some of the dolls featured on this page belong to my daughter, and as such, the dolls are clearly in "played with" condition. Even the ones which belong to me have not all been kept in pristine condition. But that's alright. We already know what happens when toys sit on the shelf, are never bought, and stay in their packaging forever, don't we, Stinky Pete?

Wherever possible here, I will attempt to identify which type of doll these happen to be. I have new photos which I will be uploading soon.
Aladdin and Jasmine, from "Aladdin".
Aladdin is a Musical Prince, and his doll stand played "Prince Ali".
Jasmine in the purple dress is a Musical Princess, and her stand played
"A Whole New World".
Jasmine in the blue midriff and harem pants is a Perfume Princess.
Her perfume scent is, appropriately enough, the jasmine flower.

Remember that the doll is only a Perfume Princess if she has the hole in her back, no matter what outfit she is wearing.
Cinderella
The iridescent white dress is the Perfume Princess dress, and Cindy's fragrance was gardenia.
The blue dress is the Dancing Princess outfit, which is a paler blue than the Musical Princess dress. The Musical Princess Cinderella's doll stand played "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo".
Belle, from "Beauty and the Beast"
The yellow dress is from the Dancing Princess doll. Belle's dolls stand played "Tale As Old As Time".
The green dress is the Perfume Princess Belle, whose scent was rose.
There is also a Bubble Princess Belle, whose gown is purple lame and white.
Bubble Princess Cinderella came in a green and white lame gown.
Princess Aurora from "Sleeping Beauty"
This is the Musical Princess Sleeping Beauty, whose doll stand played "Once Upon A Dream".
There is a Dancing Princess Sleeping Beauty whose collar and panniers are all pink, rather than white.
The Perfume Princess Sleeping Beauty also wore a pink dress, but her bodice was a black velveteen. Her perfume fragrance was lily.
Snow White
Poor Snow looks a bit worse for wear, here. She is a Musical Princess, and her doll stand played
"Someday My Prince Will Come".
The Dancing Princess Snow White has a similar dress, but without the chiffon overskirt, and less red on the sleeves. She came with a red cape.
Perfume Princess Snow White has an almost all-blue dress, in dark and light shades of what I tend to call "paper lame" (you'll have to imagine the accent above the "e"). Her scent was honeysuckle.
Snow White also came as a Bubble Princess. Her gown is almost orangey in color, and she came with a short red cape.
Obviously, we have Ariel, the Little Mermaid here. What is not so obvious is which Princess series she belongs to, if any. I'm not 100% sure she's wearing her original dress, but it's the one she was wearing when I got her.
This version of Ariel is a Musical Classics doll. I do not know what music her doll stand would have played, as it is not written on the packaging in my source photo. She would originally have been wearing a purple bra-top with a teal green tail skirt. Here, she's borrowing a gown from a generous Checkerboard Dawn.
This whimsical lady is none other than the Fairy Godmother who helped Cinderella achieve her heart's desire.
Believe it or not, she's a Perfume Princess doll. And I'm having a hard time remembering what her fragrance was, since I deboxed her myself, but didn't save her packaging. I have the bottle of perfume, but it's sealed, and I'm not inclined to open it to find out, so I'm afraid it will just have to remain a mystery until someone contacts me, or I find another one MIB. Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!
Mary Poppins is missing her hat and scarf, but she is a Musical Classics doll. As mentioned before, these dolls did not state on the packaging which song the doll stand would play. I love her face, though. She (and the Musical Classics Ariel above) are my two favorites of the Disney dolls shown here.
Tinkerbelle is another Disney doll I have not been able to place. Like the first Ariel above, she doesn't seem to fit in to the "Fill-in-the-blank Princess" line. Her almond-shaped violet eyes and platinum blonde hair, as well as the good authority of the lady who gave her to me (thanks, Jo!) tell me she IS Tinkerbelle.

Tink's body has painted-on underwear, and she is only marked "Made in China" at her waist-line. Here she has stolen...I mean,
borrowed...an outfit from one of the Starr Modeling Agency gals. I do not know what her original outfit would have been, but her wings must have been attached to it.
COMING SOON!
I will be posting photos and information soon on a few more Disney dolls I have acquired, including The Beast and Prince Charming. Stay tuned!
