Who's That Doll?
1970's 1970's
PALITOY PIPPA
What I don't know about Pippa dolls could fill this page and then some. There are many wonderful websites out there which feature this sweet little doll from England. What I can tell you about Pippa is this: she is 6-1/2" tall, the same as Topper Dawn. She was made by the British toy company Palitoy at about the same time as Dawn, but her tenure was much longer. Pippa has rooted hair and eyelashes, the same as Dawn, but her body is more fully articulated, having externally jointed knees, as opposed to Dawn's which were internally jointed. Pippa's waist and hips also click into a sitting position.

Pippa had many friends to accompany her: Emma, Marie, Britt, Tammie, Rosemary (named Christine by the European company Meccano), Mandy, Penny, Jasmine, Gale, and the boyfriend doll, Pete (aka Yan by Meccano). Pete started out looking just like Topper's Gary, with painted on dark brown hair and blue eyes, but after a year or two he was given some literal "plastic surgery", and the later models of Pete look much different. Pete also was given several more fashions than were ever made for Gary and the rest of the Topper boys.

Pippa had lots of fashions and playsets. These included an apartment, like Dawn's, but unlike her American cousin, Pippa's apartment had some expansion sets. She had a car, a salon and a camper.

Future photos of other Palitoy Pippa dolls will be added to this page as I acquire them.
Mandy
Pippa
Palitoy Mandy, wearing a new, 2002 Checkerboard Dawn fashion called "Chain 'Er Up Again".

If you look closely through her stockings, you can see her jointed knees. In all other respects, the body style is similar to Topper Dawn dolls.
Pippa is a blue-eyed blonde with waist-length hair. A later version, "Princess Pippa" has long blonde hair which reaches down past her tush.
Like Topper Dawn dolls, the Pippa dolls have head mold numbers on the backs of their heads. They are marked "Palitoy Hong Kong" on their tushes.
