Hello and welcome to my cane pages. These are my custom made knob canes. When I started using a cane, I had an old knob top walking stick that I used to get around with. I was looking at it one day and decided to tie a Turk's Head decorative knot on to the top. Well, being home a lot, and having a bit of time on my hands has led to this site for my canes. I take different materials and apply a bit of cutting and trimming to them and then go to work on the knotting. I am familiar with this type of Marlinspike knotting from a few years working at sea. Also the Ashley Book of Knots is a must read for any knothead!
I have a few items for sale. On the canes I am perfecting a sealing for the rope and a good quality finish for the wood. So far I am having luck with a water based poly-acrylic. Some I will leave natural and just wax the wood. In the far upper right pic you can see a stairway spindel that is one of several I obtained to cut down to make the stick to it's right. They are oak and a very hard wood! The cane on the left is from a spindel.
The two pics on the bottom right are of a stick I made from a pool cue and a round sphere from the craft store. They are attached with a 1/2" wooden dowel and then painted in black and laquered.
The line I use is a nylon braided 1/8" and the knots are each tied with one continuous strand until the knot is complete. Go to the knots page for a layout of this process. Thank you for visiting my site. Feel free to drop me a line. I will continue to make these and they will be added to the canes page as time goes by. So please return for updates.
