Here's the progression I use to tie the knots for my canes. A different variety of these knots can be tied to fit many different shaped objects. Depending on the object or the complexity of the knot, this can take from hours up to days. I will add some of these other objects to another page as time by goes and I get my stubby little fingers busy!
I will tie the knot for this knob.
The knot is laid out and tied flat to start. It is a spherical weave.
I can now pick up the knot and procede to lay it over an object.
I place the knot over a sphere and start to work out the slack and get the roundness in place. I use a larger sphere for this first process and afterwards I transfer the knot to the target object
And here is the knot pulled taut on the cane knob. I also run another loop for 3 strands through out. This takes a bit of time and patience. If a crossing is done wrong in the first tying of the knot, it will have to be undone and then corrected. Whew...got lucky here!
