Emily Mary LAYE (Dau of Major F.F. Laye and Anne
Maria Teresa Walsh,   born on the Isle of Man, Douglas, 1849, d  1896 Detroit). Wedding: 4 Apr 1868 Porchester,   England -Divorced before 1880- remarried in Michigan to  Cornelia Moran about 1881 Michigan   Lambert Dwyer and Emily Laye  had "Illegitimate child" married to his brother, William Dwyer. Appears to have been a long term affair- each chasing each other back and forth across Atlantic. Other children may be Lambert's - Only evidence for Hugh.  Her husband divorced her- changed his name in the 1880 census from William to Thomas. Hugh lists his father as "Lambert Dwyer" on his marriage certificate. Lambert visited America, and Emily staying with her sister in Scotland, not far from where Lambert was stationed- Hugh born there, in Edinburgh. Hugh used to receive money from a "Bertie Dwyer" at Christmas- a good amount.

descended from SS Toulmin, being my gt grandfather. His daughter
Agnes, my grmother, came to her wedding with my fairly impoverished gtfather
(C of E clergyman) with an enormous marriage settlement. We did have a copy
of this but it apparently got lost when my mother d . Anyway, the dowry
kept the family going for years

I quote Doug Toulmin words here:    "Mary Ann Toulmin is  . . . child of Abraham Toulmin (1765 - 1819), I am descended in this line through Samuel Simpson Toulmin the oldest child of Abraham Toulmin and Margaret Simpson.  A relative in UK has written a couple of books on the Toulmin lineage, his research appears (to my untutored learning) to have picked up two lines, dating back to Preston in North of England and London, Samuel Simpson Toulmin was a barrister in London. The relative in UK is George Toulmin of Cheltenham.  Abraham Toulmin was 7th son [child] of Abraham Toulmin (1727 - 1800) and Mary Harrison (1728 - 1765) who appears to be from Cartmel in Lancashire Margaret Simpson was baptized on 11 May1770 in St John, Lancaster, and is the daughter of Samuel Simpson and Deborah Butterfield who were m  5 Sep 1765."
