My Pets Page!

I wanted to put up some pics of my precious pig-pets. However, this is only a starter page! There are LOTS more to come, but I have to get them scanned and sized. At least now you know how adorable they are!

Pigoletto (black) & Snowball (white) when they were younger.

Here are pictures of my precious pot bellied pigs. I've had them both since they were piglets. They're ten years old now. Pigoletto is especially unique, because he is my "color-changing" pig. He was black when he was a tiny piglet, but then progressivly began turning white. My vet has no idea why, and it seems that none of the many pig folks around the country have ever heard of this, either! I don't care what color he is, I love him very much!

Pot bellied pigs are my favorite animals. Pigs are the 4th smartest animals in the world. Their many expressions and vocalizations tell you just how they are feeling. If you grunt at a pig, he will usually grunt back at you! A grunt is a pig's way of saying "hello". If one of my pigs seems upset or scared, I grunt softly and that seems to reassure them.

Pigs are prey animals and do not have the same behaviors as dogs and cats. You must understand pig behavior to know why pigs do things. You cannot train a pig with harsh words or abuse. A pig will only think you are a horrible person. The best way to train pigs is with food rewards. A pig will do something for you if it likes and trusts you. You must earn a pig's trust, but once you have done this, a pig will bond to you for life. Discarded pigs often die of depression after being abandoned. Since a pig can live up to 25 years, make SURE that you are willing to make this commitment before adding one of these precious porkers to your household. I did a year's worth of research and talked to lots of other pig parents before getting one of my own. I've moved several times since I added my two cutie-pigs to my life, but always brought them with me. Fortunately, I never had zoning problems where I've lived. A very important thing to verify before bringing your piggie home is that your area is zoned for pigs! I called up my local town's zoning board and made sure there wouldn't be a problem before adopting Pigoletto. Some areas consider pot bellied pigs farm animals, so a call to the local zoning office will save you a lot of heartache later on!

Pigoletto in Florida, a few years ago. Here he is solid white with white skin and no black markings at all!

Snowball in Florida. Snowball has a rounder body. And that happy-pig tail is always going!

Snowball & Pigoletto side by side. Yes, this is the SAME pig who was black when he was a piglet!

Lots more pics to come! Keep checking back! And if you have a pig site, let me know and I'll put it on the LINKS page!
